I think it is generally understood that as a car driver,(Not holding an HGV licence),one renews one’s driving licence at 70 years old with a self answered medical.(I know some drivers over 70 who certainly would fail miserably even a basic medical if done by a GP).
As an HGV licence holder,I have had to renew my HGV entitlement with a medical avery year since age 65.
I am now wishing to renew my HGV licence on coming up for 70,but on checking my licence for expiry dates, find that my car licence entitlement does not expire until 2015 when I shall be 72.
Does this mean that as an HGV licence holder and being subject to a strict medical, give one a couple of years “advance” on medical grounds to drive my car, to a non HGV licence holder?

Isnt the car licence 10yrs only now , just to make revenue for them ?
10 years is for the photo on the licence not for the entitlement to drive
The medical is a separate issue
Age 72 for the basic licence is a little odd but if that’s what the DVLA state then great
The LGV C and CE if held will be yearly no matter what
Interesting point - when you pass the D4 for LGV C/CE it will also count for the pre 1997 C1/C1E/D1/D1E and for the pre 97 ones it lasts for 3 years not 1 year
A thought … if you renewed LGV via a D4 medical at age 69 then they may have also taken that as the 3 year medical for the car/basic licence making that expiry age 72

Just what my wife said!

It would appear so although I’d note that all category expiry dates are on the reverse of the licence so if 2015 is displayed on the front that won’t automatically mean your car licence. (If I’m wrong I’ll be corrected )
Good point - OP are you looking at the expiry dates next to the categories or the expiry date on the photo side ?
