Drivers looking to go & work in the USA, dont bother as I have just returned from Indianapolis, I was visiting, but I went to a truck stop to have a look around & chat with a couple of the drivers, I have never seen so many trucks parked up in an American truck stop before, it looked like a service area in Europe around 5pm.
Any how, a couple of drivers I spoke to told me that they are in trouble within the trucking industry, they said there is a shortage of loads, due to, the amount of trucks on the road, the poor rates & the economic climate.
1 of the guys I spoke to showed me the loads coming up on the company web site he worked for, as an owner driver, he said he is just hangin on in there.
the loads shown varied in rates so bad that they would just about pay for the fuel only, and to get the load, he would have to run empty, from 280 miles to 850 miles, or one load that showed a good rate, with a small profit, would not be ready for collection for 26 days…
& he had a specialised low loader, but there was another 2 waiting in the same place as him, along with 100’s of box vans / fridges.
So, those jobs advertising for drivers in America / Canada … be aware it’s not all that “Greener” do some fact finding of your own before going into it full steam ahead, fly out, hire a car & go talk to the Drivers first…
Nice one Mr O’Donnell. but what’s the latest on Richard Long, if you please?
