i wouldnt do the animal waste job-you must have gone past one of these minging bulkers on the motorway, filled with all the blood and guts from butchers shops etc.jesus the smell!! must be good money but i wouldnt do !!
That’s a great job, though you’ll need a strong stomach lol, the amount of times I sPewed in that job lol
I love driving a truck but the simple fact is that when you climb a hill, the only thing that changes is the pitch of the engine note. A steam engine will approach an incline enthusiastically and when it reaches the summit will sound like a marathon runner who has just completed 26 miles. They are living creatures.
Steam engines are like mechanical dragons, absolutely wondrous to behold whether from the footplate or the lineside.
Here is a man with real passion in his veins - hat’s off fella.
Could never drive a bus - only recently found out the plastic screens are there to stop the spit hitting you
Oh - and a road sweeper

Doesn’t work though, there’s holes.
Was on phone to a mate who I used to drive busses with a few years ago on bonfire night 2008, when I heard a few kids getting off the bus, 1st “thanks driver”, 2nd “ta man”, 3rd threw a lit firework in the cab…
Hopefully, none of the above!
I retired last week, and if I can manage on the pension, I will be happy to never have to do a driving job again!
I enjoyed my driving career (about 42 years of my working life) but towards the end I can’t honestly say that I really enjoyed it like back in the 60’s & 70’s. Stupid new legislation like the driver CPC etc didn’t help either.
PENSIONER POWER!!!
Les.
(can’t stay away from this forum though)

they were when i was on it. the amount of food the butchers would give us for nothing was unreal. and no it wasnt any of the out of date stuff either. it was always taken from the front counter from the stuff he sold to customers
Any truck with a twin splitter gear box or crash box, like the ERFs had and Stratos, getting the revs right,a knackered knee joint, and muscle pain in the leg.Stopping the truck when you have messed up the gears, and have to start again in the middle of a busy roundabout!!!
Bulk garbage hauler or container hauler, both seem to be driving down interstate’s at either highly dangerous speeds in very poorly maintained piles of junk. The garbage guys seem to be involved in most of the accidents in the I-95 corridor and container drivers seem to be the main target or DOT.
UK container work i found ok,lots of time off to get the bike out when they are tipping for 5 to 7 hours for hand ball, gave them my mobile, ring me when an hour from being empty please.

mechanical dragons-harry what a brilliant description.my uncle was on steam trains(as a boiler cleaner, then fireman, then driver) until forced on to diesel.progress eh
Any job involving a straight run to the same place and back every day, or worse, every night; parcels trunks etc.
Wouldn’t want any job involving roll cages again either.
My missus passed her PSV back in June, and she loves the job, although she prefers service buses to school runs. Personally I’d sooner carry cattle; and with no offence intended, one job I could never do is driving those special needs buses. I’ve nothing against the people, I just don’t think I’d have the necessary patience with them.
Did a bit of firing steam engines on preserved railways when I was younger. Fantastic fun, and a superb way to keep fit. If you ever do one of those “steam experience” things, I highly recommend the North Yorkshire Moors Railway; it’s probably the closest thing you’ll ever get to the real thing as it used to be.
Milk cages for Asda on the Arla night shift, awkward and heavy to move around, and the driver that did the shift before yours left about 100 empty cages to take back.

I used to enjoy the Arla night shifts. Or day shifts for that matter. Good little job that was.
