Driving Job You'd Never Do?

Taking animals to the Slaughterhouse, just couldn’t bring myself to do it although I do like a good bit of steak. Every time I go past one of those lorry’s I keep wondering if those buggers know what’s in store for them

good job some of us do it then, otherwise you’d be living on beans and lentils :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

I’m with Paul on this one, although that’s not to say I would find any fault or criticism whatsoever with you or anyone involved in the abattoir or processing industries, it’s just that I am possibly over-sensitive and the work would upset me. I do eat meat, I do know that animals have to be slaughtered in order for me to do this and perhaps that makes me hypocritical in a way, although I suppose the massive majority of meat eaters would understand where I was coming from.

Coach driving

And as for continental work, I doubt you would find anyone who has done UK work and continental work who would ever prefer UK work.

Im with you there harry.I would have never done busses or coaches public hassle+ crap money.

Any kind of steam train is fantastic to drive, more like alchemy than driving!

I would love to drive a full size steam train Harry but I think my knees would hit all the signals on those mini ones that go round the woods

Ah yes, they are a little too small!

I’ve driven this one, the RH&DR “Southern Maid”, admittedly only a few hundred yards but that was fun.

count me in on that aswell and would definatley prefer continent to uk

Any kind of train is fun to drive, it’s just the sheer weight of them, here’s one taken late at night at the controls of a Class 33 diesel.

Trains are like trucks in a way, anyone can make them go forward, it’s getting them to stop in the right place that’s the hard part…

i wouldnt do the animal waste job-you must have gone past one of these minging bulkers on the motorway, filled with all the blood and guts from butchers shops etc.jesus the smell!! must be good money but i wouldnt do !!

That looks brilliant!! I love the old steam trains when they enter a tunnel and all the smoke hits the arch, don’t know what it is but they look majestic when in motion. Fantastic piece of engineering.

Works for me.

Poor jimboy… :frowning:

I don’t do the run with Jim anymore, haven’t for about 6 or 7 weeks, various agency guys are my co-pilots these days. Jim leaves DHL after 10 years today, joining another firm with 3 letters.

I love steam engines of all types and I think the reason is that you can actually hear them breathing, you can hear them labouring under a heavy load. They have a heart (the boiler) and lungs (the cylinders).

Live chickens, done it before but never again.

You have to be a certain height to drive the small trains…like Teddy who used to drive the Blackpool pleasure beach train, I know him well…“Top Man”.

DWP?

Driving anything to landfill, them thing proper smell.

Done taxiing a few year back, if you wanna earn money then thats the job, if you wanna lose your social life then its double win, you wont get many jobs that allow you to clear a mortgage in 3 years

When it comes to trains I would love to drive a steam train or a big diesel loco but the 8 48 to cannon street holds no interest.

Bus, taxi, livestock, multi drop, bin lorry, skip work, tipper work, probably loads more.
