Driving hours old regs

it was something said on another post that you can drive 70 hours in a week

can i ask this when you circulate your hours for the week is the week a period of time between weekly rest, or 00.00 Mon till 24.00 sun ,00.00 Tues till 24.00 Mon and so on.

  1. The driving period between any two daily rest periods or between a daily rest period and a weekly rest period, hereinafter called ‘daily driving period’, shall not exceed nine hours. It may be extended twice in any one week to 10 hours.

in the above quote its a week

‘week’ means the period between 00.00 hours on Monday and 24.00 hours on Sunday;

so based on the quote above there is no way of doing more than 56 in a week.

There was no weekly limit under the old regs Del, only a fortnightly limit of 90 hours. This meant it was possible to do more than 56 hours in a week which is why a weekly limit was introduced in April 2007. Since then you calculate your weekly total driving hours between 00:00 Monday and 24:00 Sunday, not between weekly rest periods.

70 odd hours was unlikely and was taking it to the extreme but it was theoretically possible. It was easily possible to achieve 60-64 hours in a week, I’ve done it on a couple of occasions.

I remember one time shipping out on a Sunday and getting to the Dutch border and parking for my daily rest as I couldn’t drive into Germany due to the Sunday ban. Set of about 01:30 Monday and went to Stockholm, tipped on Tuesday and ran back empty to Calais. Swapped trailers and headed back to Stockholm, stopping for 24 hours off in Germany on the way. No weekend driving bans in Sweden so was still driving on the Sunday on my 7th card for the week and each card had near enough maximum allowed driving hours on it.
