Having passed c+e January and do some driving every other weekend to gain experience as I have an office job, not sure for how long hence doing the driving. I thought I had a good understanding of the hours until yesterday did a long run when I got to del point there were a few drivers and we got talking. One guy said he had just completed a cpc course where he was told that even if you drive for one hour and have a 45 min break you only have 4.5 hrs to drive which he did not know about. I have also done driving for the company I work for and the transport manager has always told the drivers you can’t take too much break. I drove for 3 hrs had a 45 min break then drove for 1 hr. At the del point I was going to put on break for 45 min so that would give me 4 hrs to get back. This guy said if I had the second 45 min I would not have the hrs to get back even though I had only driving 4 hrs. I thought you could have as much break as long as do don’t drive for more than 4.5 hrs and dont drive more than 9 hrs extended to 10 hrs twice a week.
You’re right, they’re wrong
This might help…viewtopic.php?f=5&t=117980

As said you are right and the other bloke was wrong.
It doesn’t matter how much break you have you will not lose daily or weekly driving time, if you have a 45 minute break after 1 hours driving you still have 8 hours daily driving time left, or 9 hours if you have an extended driving day available.
Thanks for your replies. It did have me worried although it did not make sense to me that too many breaks can reduce your driving time. Strange how there are people providing cpc courses giving drivers incorrect information.

I make a note of how much drive time I have left, the tacho resets after each 45 min break.

That’s what I’ve always done when necessary, well to be precise I’ve always made a note of how much driving time I’ve done, the tachograph will reset after 45 minutes of POA as well as after 45 minutes of break
Just to confirm you are right
Strange how there are people providing cpc courses giving drivers incorrect information.
Frightening! But it’s also true to say that some folks sit through a cpc course, determined to be bored, and will pick up a phrase out of context and then cling onto it as a bit of inaccurate information.
Not saying that’s the case this time, but it just could be.
Cpc courses are being scrutinised more closely as time goes on and hopefully poor trainers will be eliminated in due course.

Cpc just a money maker thats going to be done away with. Waste of tolime i think. Your gona learn stuff everyday along the way
