Driving For Tesco

Hello

I have just gained my C+E license and I am looking for weekend work. I have already a full time job working as a forklift driver for a manufacturing business during the week however would like some driving work on the weekend. A colleague of mine who is an ex-driver told me that as a new inexperienced driver that supermarket deliveries would be a good place to start as its pallets or trolleys mostly.

I live in Newport South Wales and not to far away from the Tesco distribution centre in Magor. I was wondering if anyone on here knew which agency I would have to go through to get some work with them. I know there are other firms around my way and I dont mind who I drive for but I have to be realistic because I have no experience.

And just going off subject here slightly, do the agencies take on drivers who have not got any CPC hours under their belt. I have my initial CPC but no periodic training. I am thinking about doing the tachograph and driver hours module as I am still a bit unsure about using tachographs especially the digicards.

Thanks for reading
Dave

Supermarkets tend to be difficult to get into. As a new driver you’ll have even more trouble. With a fresh license it’s not really a position to be too picky as it really is take what you can get.

You do know you won’t be able to work every weekend

Reading your post, I think you’ve answered the question yourself. Surely it’s madness to try and work without knowledge of the hours and digital tacho.

Agencies are looking, very often, for 21 hours to be completed. But if you recently passed your Mod 4 you will have the best part of 5 years on your card and I think you’ll find that’ll do nicely.

But, as I said, surely you need the knowledge - so may as well get the cpc credit at the same time.

Best of luck with the job hunt.
