Driving conditions in the north

Snow and freezing weather struck parts of the country on Friday, trapping up to 50 vehicles in one area of East Yorkshire.

Up to 20 cm of snow was expected to fall in some higher areas in the north of the country and strong winds were causing drifting.

Humberside Police said up to 50 vehicles had become trapped on the A1079 in East Yorkshire because of heavy snowfall.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for large parts of eastern England and Scotland.

“Drivers in the North East, East and South East are warned that they could wake up to a covering of snow on Friday morning,” The Highways Agency said.

“Driving conditions in these parts are likely to be difficult during Friday morning’s rush hour.”

It said the snow could lead to severely reduced visibility and the settling of snow on roads could make conditions hazardous.

“Drivers are advised to delay their journey if they can in falling or lying snow,” the agency said.

“If conditions deteriorate, then delay your journey if you can until the weather improves.”

The Met Office said the snow will become heavier and more persistent as it crosses the country on Friday before it starts to ease when rain sweeps in later in the day.

if you have to drive this weekend be very careful.
