First thing I do is make sure the Cassette player’s not clogged up.

whats a cassette player ? is it one of those portable toilets ?

WTF, The first thing I check after getting in the right truck, is the tacho when I put my card in, then in cab checks, then I get out and walk round, tax disc/o-license comes somewhere between windscreen wipers and n/s mirrors.

I always check the number plate first because I can’t see the point of checking the tax on some body else’s truck. Make sure you have the right truck before you start checking anything.

. . . that you haven’t fallen out of bed during the night and broken all your appendages?

i try to remember to check if my pants are on.

I thought it was an offence to drive a vehicle on public roads that’s not taxed ?

not being taxed and not having a tax disc on display are not the same things.
Wasn’t there a thread a while ago claiming that the new taxation rules (on-line etc) mean that it CAN be legal to take a vehicle on the road without a disc?

As long as it’s taxed before midnight on the day it expires there’s an exemption for not displaying a tax disc which covers the first five working days of the month.

I never check anything before I climb in my cab I climb in insert digi card put on other work then start to do all checks

I’m the opposite. I do checks first, bad damage, tyres aren’t flat, lights work, then put card in and do a manual entry. Pain in the arse if you’ve put the card in then have to take it back out because you have to VOR it.

Check your Tax first? Is that really what your teacher taught you?
Tell me who he is, I’ll give him a kick in the nuts for being a ■■■■.

Do you not check your insurance policy first, make sure there’s no hidden clauses about having a ■■■■ as an instructor?
What about checking the gaffers bank account, make sure he’s good for the O license security?
Or ring the DVLA first, make sure your license is still valid, hasn’t been suspended without your knowledge?

'kin ell, why not check your contract first, make sure you actually work there?

Many fleet operators don’t have insurance in the same way we do for our cars. They take out liability insurance, and then effectively “lay the odds” for the fleet themselves. I don’t think there are any fleet operators with plenty of workshops that don’t use this system.

If some mickey mouse firm tries to sign you up with an insurance excess for driving their motor, then chances are they don’t have enough cover, and are very likely operating bent IMHO. :smiling_imp:

Local Councils, fire brigades and the like are almost always exempt from any insurance.

Fleet insurance can be “bought” by lodging a deposit of £500,000 into the High Court. I hope that figure has risen because one of Eddies finest running into a half decent council house could wipe that paltry sum out.
