Driving breaks - 15 mins every two hours

Just been reading that drivers of vans without a tacho are subject to rules that state they should have at least 15/20 mins break every two hours of driving. (HSE guidelines)

Yet the professional driver can go four and a half hours without one (EU rules)

Which body has the trump card? The HSE is for ALL drivers the EU rules are for the tacho drivers.

H.

I think you will find that as its a guideline, then should, would, and could, mean nothing…whereas the tacho rules are a legal requirement and checkable/enforceable.

You really think van drivers will stick to that?

not in a million years…that van needs to earn its keep and be paid for.i didn’t buy a new van for it to be parked up.eat and drive, etc

its not HSE its Rospa royal society for the prevention of accidents and this is related to anyone that drives ANY vehicle that the suggestion is that a driver takes a break from driving after 2hrs…and the word is SUGGESTION…

Write out a route plan that you can read easily. If you use a SatNav programme the destination
before you set off. Plan where to stop for regular rest breaks (every two hours or sooner if feeling
tired for at least 15 to 20 minutes).

van drivers are generally subject to UK Domestic rules, and there is nothing in them about breaks. What you read is nothing more than a suggestion and there is no penalty for ignoring those suggestions.
