Driving assements digi card

Been arsked for an interview which involves a driving assement question is how my going to explain to my present employer that this will show on my digi card I’ve driven another Company vehicle is there a way round this??

The way round it, is to ask to take the assessment in a non digital truck, failing that, report the card lost after the assessment, then apply for a new one.

You could simply “lose” your card just before the assessment, then do the necessary printouts at start and end of assessment (with an extra copy of each - one for you, one for the vehicle operator). Keep your copy for 28 days just in case you are checked by DVSA, then quietly bin it. Meanwhile you will have miraculously found your “lost” card and can continue using it.

Or you could really lose your card - i.e. bin/burn/bury it, apply for a new one and do printouts in the meantime.

Or you could be totally honest with your current employer - i.e. tell them you are thinking of leaving and (more to the point) why. You never know, they might just think enough of you to offer a pay increase…

Should be a clause that if an assessment being undertaken then you should be allowed to not use a card and do printouts. At least in other industry you can go to interviews and not have it jeopardise your current job.

Shouldn’t have to be secretive but at times you have to be just in case you don’t get the job and not have some employers then take the hump that you’ve been elsewhere

Politely explain to the company you want to do the assessment with that you prefer to not use your card as you don’t wish your current employer to know, then go through the correct procedure of doing printouts before and after driving as you would if you’d lost or got a damged card, I can’t see why there would be a problem if it’s a decent company you’re applying to.

Its simple just tell them you work some where else, cant put card in end of story, so do interview and tell them you cant put card in. If your good at what you do what difference will it make

Might not get the chance to show how good he is if he refuses to put his card in though.
My advice is call the company you have the interview with and explain your reservations. They might say its ok to do it without digi card. But most companys will want you to show you know how to use one correctly. If they say you must use your card, then you have time to either tell your current employer or decide against doing it.

So what we have to do is bend to the ■■■■■■■ demands, if they want new drivers ask them if they have a old truck to do the test drive in, if they don’t ■■■■ them, all they will do is get polish or whatever. what they are saying is they will get drivers. Its getting very hard to change jobs now with all this ■■■■■ of cpc and money and the rest

My company saw my assessment and asked the question and I told them I put my resignation in yesterday, that was a year ago, all grievances where sorted and a very healthy wage rise.
Best thing is my wagon is anologe and I gave my card in to be downloaded for effect

Tools to use

The card is yours not the company’s. As long as your not in any infringement just use it
If they get ■■■■■ you know for sure it’s time to move on.

Tell them you have just worked 6 shifts and are on rest, that way it looks good because you go by the rules and they will take you for a blast round the yard and watch you drop a trailer etc

I’m sure that will create a wonderful impression with the would-be employers. Someone that doesn’t even work for them yet laying down the law…

Its your card and if you are on a day off its none of his business!
Just say you have an assessment as you are thinking of doing some agency work part time,as some one else says if he starts getting arsey then the writing was on the wall anyway.

But it is his business! He is required to monitor his employees’ working and driving hours to ensure that WTD and Drivers’ Hours Regs are complied with.

I hear what you say Roymondo and yeah I understand he has to ensure his drivers remain legal at all times but if this fella does the assessment in his own time and stays legal the assessment is none of the boss’s business he don’t own the bloke he just employs him and not very well by the sound of it hence the attraction elsewhere.

Is there an exemption in the WTD or the EDH regulations that allow a driver to interupt his weekly rest for a driving assesment?

IF the OP is legal to drive on the assesment just do it.
If their current employer asks why they where driving on their day off, just be honest and tell them what they’ve done. He’s only looking to see if the grass is greener etc, and may or may not move on, as there’s no Definate offer of work elsewhere. This may prompt the current employer to either sour or improve relationships with the driver. They may offer a pay rise so they’ll stay.

If the OP isn’t legal to drive on the assessment just tell the prospective employer the truth, and they may possibly postpone the assessment until he’s legal
