The woman and my misses are having a right stroppy conversation… misses has the dragon nostrils going :smiling_imp: so you know its bad.

This is turning into a more interesting day than i thought !

Every horse needs a passport

ROG:
18 horses is going to be around 9 or 10 tonnes

Only if you’ve got horses that weigh 450-500kg  some will be lighter, some will be heavier !

Have you transported a lot of horses Rog ?

Never transported one

I got the weights as an average from the towing advice I give on the Horse and Hounds site

No offence Rog, but over the years you’ve got yourself into trouble several times giving advice on subjects you know nothing about in real life, maybe it’s time to step away from the keyboard and stick to the subjects you do know about

You know what lads i have seen a side to my misses i never knew about - next time i have some agro with my dad Ime going to take her down the yard ! she is bloody scary

Still no idea if were loading it or not, misses wants a vet out ■■? to see if it has a chip in incase its bin nicked ? !

I am getting brownie points as ive done the “whatever you want to do love” routine, but quite a few nice women in leather boots and really tight trousers walking round the yard  so quite happy to pretend to read the paper

No offence taken - perhaps you would like to look at the actual info - horseandhound.co.uk/forums/s … p?t=490195 - there are many other threads with horse weights on them - thousands in fact

2 things Rog,

1: I’ve looked at the H & H forums before, they’re full of happy hackers who have no idea what they’re doing and dodgy experts giving advice because they’re trying to sell you something , not a good place IMHO

2:I don’t need to look a a website to work out how heavy a horse is, it’s easy to do by looking at the horse, it’s something anyone can do with experience ( I can also tell you how heavy cattle and sheep are if you ever need to know :grimacing: )

no its no wind up the horse requires a passport, and now it will have to be microchipped as well, when the passport system first came out they didn’t need the chip, but that changed so any horses that are issued a passport now have to be chipped. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

This is stupid its like a mexican stand off !

misses has suggested she knocks a few hundred quid off the price so we can get a passport down in the mids and has given her the time for me to get the ramp down, to make her mind up, if the hoss aint ready to load were going without it and she can forget the sale.

forget that its hear doing a michale jackson moon walk ! jeeze i think its on the box, or i ve been hit by something

wish me luck, looks like were going to be rolling soon

You will be very unlucky to get stopped but you are supposed to carry the passport every time you travel the horse ( council cutbacks mean there’s a lot less trading standards officers out there)

Dennis, what would you say is the average weight of a horse for general hackers ?

Rog, the problem with h&h’s is they work out weights with a tape. you would not use a tape measure to weigh yourself, you stand on the scales!

Many have used a weightbridge

bazza123:
Sorry if this sounds a bit thick, but how do you get them in there? Does the side of the trailer lift up or summat? That gangway looks a bit narrow

A few pictures can paint a thousand words…

But basically you drop the air out the suspension, lower the ramp, open the partitions, walk the Horse on, turn him sideways, attach chain to his head collar,

Then close the next partition and attach another chain (so he has 2 chains clipped on under his head collar), these give him an amount of movement to move his head left to right but not quite enough to reach the Horse in the next stall.

He also has enough movement to move his head up and down from floor to roof if he wants to due to the chains being on slider bars.

You then pat him on the Head and tell him to be a good boy, then you get trotting on down the road.

Hiya …wow thats some horse box/trailer…can i say alot of drivers have given advice about how
easy to drive when carrying these horse things. can i say when i’am in France you see these horse
boxes flying around like nutters.i’ll be traveling at 60ish mph in my camper and whoosh… whoosh
these vans go past like mad, they hurtle round bends you cant keep up, i do know they’re loaded as
i followed one to a trotting meet.crazy but the horses seem to be ok…good fun maybe for horses.

They do the same with round timber.

I have solved the passport problem, Rog can go with the OP to talk to the police.

Everyone seems to forget that the CPC does not come into force until September 2014 where 35 hours must be completed.

Thanks to everyone for your help, did not hear a thing off the horse till we pulled off the motorway and stopped at the traffic lights, it started to get a bit fidgity, and was calling its head off. Next set of lights i just kept the wagon crawling and it day bother after that.

Its harder than you think driving an animal, its the ■■■■■■■■■ car drivers that look at you, register its a horse box and then pull out in front of you - you automatically go to jump on the breaks, but then you remember you have to do everything really gentle.

Quick to offload though ! it had not intention of waiting for the offloader to tell it where it was being tipped, ramp down, misses untied it and woosh - bottom of the ramp looking like a national winner - i soon got out the way
!
I could not do that as a job jimbo, i take me hat off to you - i found it quite stressful, but it was a real good education and i will have a bit more patience when i meet an horse box in the future.
