The current rules say EU regs apply to any vehicle over 3.5 tonne (used for the carriage of goods), wether it commercial use or private is irrelevant.

That’s not correct.

There’s an exemption from the EU regulations for vehicles not exceeding 7.5t whilst they’re being used for none commercial carriage of goods, ie private use.

Article 3 - (EC) 561/006
:
This Regulation shall not apply to carriage by road by:

vehicles or combinations of vehicles with a maximum
permissible mass not exceeding 7,5 tonnes used for the
non-commercial carriage of goods;

Yep, ok got it !!!

All the 7.5s I have driven have been plated at 7.49 or just under that

I think the Manufacturers do that so the exact 7.5 cannot be in dispute

i drove a 7.5 ton one few years back and it said 8250 GVW but it was a 7.5 ton

That would probably be the design weight, than the ministry plate says something like “weights not to be exceeded in the UK” 7.499999999999999g :wink:

I thought you needed to insert a driver card to place the digital tachograph “out of Scope” and keep it there. I have never had the need to use that mode yet, but am willing to learn :wink:

You don’t need to insert a driver card to put the vehicle out of scope.
