Drivers Wives....

That got your attention….

Well actually, it’s two Southampton drivers wives, Liz and Angie, that are doing a charity run in aid of cancer support ( The Rowans Hospice ) in Brest, Brittany, on September the 9th.
It’s a huge event with over 6000 runners, and walkers.

Like Liz and Angie, many of you lads may know someone, either loved ones, family, friends, an old work mate, or even perhaps have experienced first hand, cancer treatment. You’ll know the care and understanding that a hospice gives.
I appreciate times are tight these days, but we’re just asking for a couple of pounds, (the price of a decent cuppa,) in a donation, to help all those that need the love and care that these people give……

You can donate very easily by using this site …… justgiving.com/Angela-Liz
You can leave your details and a message, and if you wish, the name of someone you want the girls to run in memory of ( they’ll carry the name with them during the run )….or, you may give anonymously if you prefer.
If you donate, would you please put it up on the thread, so we can keep it near the top. Many thanks for your anticipated support…really appreciated…

A big thanks to Rikki UK… the community manager on this forum, who has kindly given us permission to post this up…

Fergie…well done to Liz and Angie for raising money again for such a worthwhile cause.
I have made a donation in memory of my dear wife who sadly lost her battle with cancer in 1995.

Come on you lot, times are hard as we all know but these hospices do a wonderful job.
Every little helps.

Can you not set up a Paypal means of payment?

Hi Gazzer, payments can be made through Paypal via the Justgiving site.

I could not let Tony beat me.I`m really pleased to be able to donate to such a worthy cause.
Come on lads I know times are desperate but if you all give up drink, drugs,■■■ and rock and roll for a week then you can do it.I hope you raise thousands.Regards Charlie

Found it Tone and put £10 in the hat…thats Liz 'N Angies hat, not Scattercash’s magic hat!

As Fergie doesn,t seem to be about, may i on his and Liz,s and Angies behalf say
a big thanks to you Charlie and Gazzer for donating.
Although not involved with this myself it is a cause very close to my heart.

Like Fergie said in his original post most of us know someone that has needed the
love and care that these hospices give to unwell people in their last days.

Any amount no matter how small will help keep these places going.
If you can spare even just a couple of quid please do so.

Hi Tone…

Thanks for your support.mate. It’s difficult times, the shilling in your pocket doesn’t go as far these days… I think giving to charities always comes down to a personal thing. It’s not till it effects you directly or indirectly that you get a wake up call…But, as you know, this is a very worthy cause that effects a huge amount of people, I’m sure we’ll get a few more lads chucking in…Cheers.

Charlie one and Gazzer…have sent you P.M.s

Well Fergie i may be able to help you there,iv’e come up with an idea so i’ll run it past you to see what you think. I’ve had a look in the old drinks cabinet and see i have a couple of bottles of scotch lurking with in, now it struck me that maybe we could have a prize draw at the August bash which is before angie and liz’s run and any proceeds made could be donated to this worthy cause. Now i will give these two bottles of scotch to start the ball rolling should you think its a good idea, and i feel sure others will follow the lead with other donations ( one is a glenmorangie 10 years old, and i’ve had it ten years or more so is well matured ) and you have to bear in mind draw tickets sell well when people have had a few drinks and its a good cause, let me know what you think of my wizzy idea and we will see if we can get something cooking, regards JD.

Cracking idea J.D…and another generous offer…but are you sure you want to let go of those two treasured possessions …Now, if you take them to the Wheatsheaf, make sure you get the raffle sorted BEFORE they all start the drinking session, while they’ve still got a few shillings in their pockets ! I believe Angie is going to be there, so she’ll keep an eye on you, to make sure you don’t have second thoughts and drink them instead…
Another idea, perhaps you could auction one of them off on here, a kind of “on-line raffle” this would give the rest of the lads the chance to purchase one that can’t make the Wheatsheaf. Take a photo of one of the bottles, give a minimum start price ( like E-bay ) and a day it’s to finish ? Perhaps young Horry could put a few tickets up at the depot, lots of people in and out of there…
Great initiative J.D. looking forward to it raising a lot of money…What do you think?

Hi Fergie ime glad you like the idea of the raffle and i really think Angie should be in charge of ticket sales on the day, from what i have gleaned Richard says she can be very persuasive when she wants to be, ime sure one off us could assist her.I do think i should announce this on Davies int. and Long dept. Soton threads as well in a bid to get more prizes donated, i feel sure it will get a good reception. Ime not to sure about the legalities of auctioning of booze on line Fergie, so maybe it would be better to auction it in the pub when every body is well oiled. Let me know what you would like to do and we will go from there mate.Regards Buzzer.

Hi Liz here!

Go for it! Let’s raise as much interest as we can, feel free to run with your fab idea!
