Carryfast:
It’s probably got something to do with the Dutch liking for those special cigars which they schmoke. There’s a rumour going round that they’ve found it safer if everyone’s stoned than if only the cyclists are.
“There is no doubt marijuana affects performance but it may be it affects it in a favourable way by reducing risk-taking”
“I can say that there are some quite distinguished researchers who are going through incredible contortions to try and prove that marijuana has to be a problem”
researchers say 80 per cent of those who had smoked cannabis [while playing computer games] demonstrated superior reaction times to those who had not. About 60 per cent finished a lap faster, while 70 per cent experienced a lower number of collisions, and more than half reached a higher level in the game.
Even the study that concluded it was dangerous could only come up with
Tracking ability was the only test criterion that was adversely affected
researchers injected standard doses of THC into mice that had been implanted with human lung cancer cells, and found that tumors were reduced in size and weight by about 50 percent in treated animals compared to a control group
Don’t believe everything the government tell you
If we take that to it’s logical conclusion then it would be safer to employ stoned mice to drive trucks then humans. Now wether stoned mice would be better at riding bicycles is another question and I reckon on that one you’d be right.
The simple fact it, nothings ever the fault of cyclists. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you do. It’s never their fault.
The cyclist is being “quizzed”, as opposed to “arrested”.
The fact of the matter is, A cyclist s on the road by right, a driver is using the road by licence. That is why a cyclist is not normally arrested at the scene of an accident.

So if someone wants to committ the perfect murder all they’ve got to do is wait until the victim crosses the road at a pelican or zebra crossing and run them over with a bike.
I was knocked off my bike in March have just returned home from court, Officer said go home as she pled guilty. Waste of a 40 mile journey and time off work. Why could they not have phoned me.

I got knocked off my bike years ago, I didn’t contact the police about it. The driver got out of his car, picked me up and asked if I was all right. I was a bit stunned and my bike was a little bent but I said yes. I just put it down to experience.
I guess in those days men were men and could take a knock without bleating about it. Today cyclists are crooks as well as wimps.
Well I am as manly as any one else. Police were called to the scene of my accident as was an ambulance ,the police followed procedure as laid down in law. I declined a ride in the ambulance as I had no broken bones. After 6 months am still experiencing discomfort but will get better in more time. The wheels are in motion so I will not lose out.I consider my self entitled to compo for loss of earnings and loss of my bike. Why should I lose out for some one elses careless driving Silly girl driving mothers car made a right turn crossing hazzard lines to drive up a side road. When I was younger I recovered from knocks but am older now it simply takes longer to recover.
enit?:
‘… Today cyclists are crooks as well as wimps…’.
I fractured my L1 vertibra last year (technically a broken back) and rode home after a ‘half-her-fault & half-mine’ scenario. I paid half her excess for the cosmetic nonsense to be sorted on her tatty-shed motor which she hadn’t spotted but which I pointed out to her. I paid for the bits on my 100% tidy & legal tread-iron & fixed it myself when I was well again. She sent me a ‘Get-well’ card and couldn’t believe her luck in a nice letter.
However, and being a bit achy at the time, I walked to hospital A&E two hours later- and calmly waited behind fat people with poorly tummies & faggots demanding gender alignment, etc, etc, etc.
I was bed ridden & unemployed for ten weeks - though managed to ‘screw’ £63 out of HM Government for not being able to earn in that period.
Upon reflection & given this cyclist’s experience, your statement is bolleaux.
This law has been banded about for years, probably getting a pushed by the cyclist lobby.
The same bunch who think truck drivers should see the consequences of accidents involving bikes and trucks on left turns, were as it would make more sense to show cyclists as they can see the truck and should know that the left hand side is dangerous.
I remember seeing signs on lorries 40 years ago, long before they became trucks. The nearside rear said suicide the off side rear had passing side. In the urban enviroment riders should be discouraged from going up the near side The wider public need more training to understand what lorries and buses do at junctions.
alamcculloch:
No, that wont work as pedestrians have the right to use roads as well.Iys only drivers who need a licence .
This law making thing is a great laugh I think that’s why the government are having trouble understanding what they’re doing because they are probably laughing too much when they make them.So we’ve got a fatal accident involving two road users who can use the road by right involving one cyclist colliding with another one of who went through a red light. The only witness is a truck driver. He’s laughing too much to make a coherent statement. How are the powers that be going to apportion blame for the accident?.
If the truckie was laughing so much that he was not coherent then hes on a charge not fit to be in charge of a motor vehicle So once again your stuffed.

Blimey that sounds like something a copper or a politician would come out with.No the driver’s defence would be he only started laughing when he’d safely parked the truck with it’s hazard lights all flashing and he was well away from the vehicle and he had plenty of witnesses to vouch for that because they were all laughing as much as he was.
alamcculloch:
Obstructing the highway,he is for the high jump.
The police have stopped all the traffic at the junction anyway and his vehicle can’t be moved and by now the whole area has come to a standstill because the junction has been closed for investigations into the accident. He is for the high jump though because he’s run out of hours and the guvnor wants to know why he’s parked up when he should have been back in the yard 3 hours ago.

Why rise to the bait, Muckles? The dislike/hate fuelled diversity of lorry drivers vs, cyclists, caravans & car drivers, etc, etc is an apparent display of how wonderful it is to live in a diverse society, which politicians often tell us is a very good thing.
Such intra-group bile absolves government from managing the country (huh? Are they allowed to? - is that because the EU is unworkable?) or doing anything resembling organisation or management as long as ‘identity groups’ like ours squabbles, whinges & snipes at other groups (ie, such as the cyclists - who let’s face it are half being encouraged to save the whale - but who are woefully managed or enabled by plod & government, etc ).
Why not challenge all candidates of every pro-Europe party at the next election which bits of diversity are of any benefit to us? Why not ask them why cyclists are neglected? - then hit them with evidence of this thread’s confrontation to evidence them how Eurolaw & diversity ■■■■■…? Other than kebab houses being open for supper when I knock off at 04.00 I can think of precious little benefit.
I know that bikewise is being pushed at kids at the moment, but IMO cyclists (I do have a bike btw) should have to take a theory and practical test like EVERY other road user.
Some of these racing type bikes can do 35mph+ ffs
The amount of times I have been held up by some moron on his pushbike in the middle of the road rather than using the “cycle path” 2 yards on his left, which has been put there to stop cyclists getting in our way and presumably to stop them coming to greif under my wheels.

‘…cyclists should have to take a theory and practical test like EVERY other road user…’
A whole new tier of beaurocratic governance?

Why didn’t plod see him - with or without his Big Brother camera systems, he is already in place! Or is plod off the ball because his government directed ‘targets’ don’t include cycle/road management any more? Even the PCSO’s round my way appear pathetic on their unroad worthy machines (eg, they have some without rear reflectors - which I have told them about. There’s a change, eh).

‘…“Cycle paths”…’ (as you reasonably invert in commas) - are rarely more than ‘shared-use paths’, ie shared with disabled, visually impaired, kids, ruts, 3 inch kerbstone drops & cars parked ‘two-wheels-up’, etc, etc. Their presence is often to satisfy a requirement ’ to do something’ albeit rarely do they contribute any positive effect. There is no law to enforce their use & our conjoined presumption that maybe ‘someone, somewhere’ is in control is frustrating almost every citizen in this land: It is evident that no one is in control.
I am grateful not to be compelled to use those ghastly & road furniture strewn alleys of hate called ‘cycle paths’ because they’re a plaster to fix a broken leg. What little use they are is frequently negated by them being permanently covered with road junk, nails & all the clart that councils can’t afford to sweep up.
A picture might begin to emerge how muggish we are when we remember that UK sends £40m per day to fund (well bicycle managed? - Yes!) continental Europe.
Cheers,
Keith (employed as agency C+E - but am a local Cycling Campaign Group member too)

Don’t all get too alarmed because I’ve always treated cyclists and horseriders with consideration when I’m driving anything and believe it or not I sometimes ride a bike too but not on the road only offroad.Having said all of that hopefully you’ll be able to educate some of those cyclists who don’t seem to have a clue when it comes to the rules of the road that we,who are on it by licence, have to go by and the ones who think it’s fun to try to overtake a truck,or a car, on either side when it’s got it’s direction indicators going. They often seem to have the same attitude to traffic control signals too
