Nice quiet industrial estate / layby set back from the road is my prefered choice.
Trying to find snap parking which allows running fridges reduces your options significantly.
“hello, do you allow running reefers?”
“Yes, but you have to turn them off after 9pm”
Seriously…
My place will only pay for parking if you are carrying a valuable load (yea I know, but they are local and took me on with little exp. In the new year I will be looking elsewhere). With the amount of diesel theft from laybys over the past couple of months they might have to change their policy soon. 4 trucks in one night a few weeks back, I had around 800L stolen about a month ago on the A10. They even drilled a hole in the tank when the fuel cap was unlocked
Nice layby set back from the road, away from the major routes, with a big anti-■■■■■ hedge to protect the fuel tank! There really is some beutiful spots i’ve found to park around the country, at least in the summer when you can enjoy the scenery.
Yes,I think,in the new year,it will be time to move on
I did nights out for over 30 years, always away all week, sometimes for several weeks and the longest time I’ve ever been away on a run is 107 days but I packed it in around five years ago and I can honestly say that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I did enjoy it when I was driving around Europe but nights out in the UK are rarely an enjoyable experience. I shudder with horror to recall the few nights I spent in lay-bys, hearing an approaching car is like hearing a mosquito in the cab.

. And I have no respect for the dirty lazy dossers who dump bottles of “trucker’s tizer” in the hedge along with all their other rubbish. You have to wonder what state their houses are in if that’s how they treat the countryside.
I found tonight someone had taken a dump behind the trailers…in our yard! Not a layby.

You didn’t stand in it did you?
If so,.are you on camera doing the Michael Jackson ‘‘Moonwalk’’ around the yard.
The thing is,those that make the decisions to build more truck stops. If they see all the laybys full of trucks near the truckstop. They might decide not to build a truckstop because there is no demand for it,it looks like…

It may have been the better option than ■■■■■■■■ his or her pants

That’s because all the cheapskate hauliers park in the lay-bys and use the facilities for free

Do you mean hauliers or drivers?
I mean the drivers that work for companies that won’t pay for parking
Eating MSA food or even using a MSA shower is very hit and miss tbh. I am not even keen on using a MSA toilet unless I have to lol.
If I can find a good layby I’ll prefer it to an MSA.
The food Dozy posted is no doubt 4 times what it should cost and either over cooked or undercooked with a 50% of food poisoning. I might eat something like a Mars bar or a packet of crisps from a MSA not so sure about a English Breakfast lol.

I’d like to know where you can get a full English from in a MSA, it’s KFC or BK

Some MSA’s have a breakfast serving outlet. Welcome Break have one (used to be Harry Ramsden’s), only about a tenner for a breakfast (tea not included… ). Road chef have the Fresh Food Cafe, that does an overpriced breakfast. I can not comment on the quality, as I make my own.

Well, I’m just going by Dozy’s picture. But I tend to agree.
Also some do have Mcdonalds that I have used before. They tend not to hike their prices up as much as KFC or BK.
I swear there is like a 40% premium on KFC and BK in MSAs.

There is a Good Breakfast concession I’ve used once at Membury, I think it’s around elsewhere too. Services mark up on the price mind.

That’s Carlisle truck stop , small breakfast which I think is £4.80 ish ( though I maybe wrong as didn’t take much notice ) , tea ( cup / mug ) is about £1.20 if I remember right , but you do get a free refill .
As for msa if you park there you get a meal voucher , welcome break is now £12 , so your food is free , if you want better food use m&s / Waitrose , m&s you can use food voucher , not sure on Waitrose
I only have breakfasts as apparently there ok for diabetics ( I find it hard to believe ) but apparently they are
The rip off at msa to me are Starbucks etc , £3.60 apx for a small latte, £2.85 for a cake , but again you can use your meal vouchers so free , I’d often have a tea & a toasted sandwich with my meal voucher from costa
