Hi There.
Applying right at this mo for o licence for possible 26ton grab lorry ,amongst other things our driver has to carry in the cab i notice he needs to keep a daily record book?
The vehicle will be a anologue tacho which we understand we have to keep 28 days of charts in cab but can you boys tell me what the drivers record book details should say; eg ; journeys etc??
Can we make our own record book to suit our needs?? we shall be doing all local trips eg; Yard to customer to tip!
Or can you buy them ,what are the contents that Vosa might want to see filled in if we get " pulled"
Anybody made there own record book??
Again thanks for any advice lads.

Could be a daily check sheet, basically a list of things to tick off when checked to say that the vehicle is roadworthy and a means for fault reporting if something is defective. These can be purchased from Tachodisc or RHA or you can make a sheet up and print them out.
If the driver signs to say everything is fine when it isn’t then he will have some explaining to do, I always like to find a dud bulb every so often if there hasn’t been any faults for a while. I’ll tick the boxes to say it’s fine and note that a bulb got changed during my walkaround, it looks better than a book full of ticks
The daily record book could be one of two things;
a) defect book as already described by 8 wheels. Either buy one or make your own check sheet. There are some examples in the VOSA Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness booklet.
b) a domestic hours ‘log book,’ depending upon what the vehicle / driver is doing they may come under UK Domestic Hours, in which case a log book may be used instead of the tacho. The log book is detailed in legislation so you are better off buying them (FTA, FHA, Tachodisc etc, etc) rather than making your own.
