The bit we worry about is whether we’re covered on insurance by climbing ladders, carrying down stairs etc. Don’t know why all the suppliers don’t band together and say “no handball, doorstep delivery only.” I bet these bakers don’t store flour upstairs then.

Just remember if any “incident” occurs, that you were wear full hi viz, safety boots, hard hat, safety specs, dust mask, condom, and ■■■■■■ tassels. You fell over due to an on coming gust of a ■■■■ from a passer by on the pavement right next to your truck, and that you were carrying only your clear conscience at the time

what with the driver shortage and all, would someone please say to their agency, " sure i’ll do that multi-drop supermarket job, but I will need a drivers mate to do the handballing" and report back to inform us of the response.well if the items over 25kg then its illigal for anyone person to lift it so please send us some more jobs for the boys and lets see the price of food rise again!
It’s illegal for one person to lift over 25kg?
That’s this year’s strong man competition [zb].
You do spout some cobblers.+1 mate. If someone like B&D was assigned to me and wouldn’t carry more than 25kg at a time, he’d be left in the yard. Our sacks are 16kg (used to be 32 in days gone) and I’ll carry 3 or 4 depending on the delivery. My record is 6

I deliver glass d/g units - I’ve only managed 83kg so far, so I’m lagging behind a bit. Do I get extra points for the wobbliness of the load?
Boys - please don’t do this ^^^. When we were young and stupid, we used to compete in carrying marquee sections, furniture, rolls of matting, even gas bottles…and all our backs are FU. Treat your back like a glass slipper, cos, like Morrisons, when it’s gone it’s gone.
Well I’ve broken my daily handball record of 6.5t. I did 7.5 today, again on Bristol. This time my AGENCY mate never turned up. Well not at our yard. I got a phone call from the miller, saying he was on the way to the mill as he couldn’t find our warehouse. I drive to the mill, no sign of him, he wont answer his phone so ■■■■■■■■ to him I go alone. My instinct tells me I was better off on my own.
Another one that wont be back for us (no shows are banned from coming back apparently) but he certainly aint coming out with me in future.

Spot on mate. I’m sure the chiropractor will tell me the same thing when I see him.
I only did three drops today but I would have welcomed a drivers mate

But did anyone take coals to NewcastleI took steel from London to Sheffield
We import coal through Newcastle! is that close enough?
If you look at the pictures of old lorries on the road, many of them appeared to have a drivers mate in those days.
Personally I like to work on my own, whatever I am doing in the workplace.
I could be available for a drivers mate - Tues and Fridays only though. Nominal fee and conditions apply. Don’t expect a full herculean imput, but every little helps as the famous saying goes

Congratulations! You’ve just passed the Pertemps’ selection test!
I’m quite enjoying RDC work. Turn up and wait to be tipped.

Its all palleted. All I do is turn up, sign in and wait to let on a bay. Well, apart from doing a run to Morrisons in Wakefield. The guys at that RDC hate it when I turn up as the guys at my warehouse load multiple items onto the same pallet so they have to break it down. The guy who tipped me at Sittingbourne today seemed fine with it though.
When I was younger I regularly carried 140 lbs of flour, the bags now only weigh 70 lbs.I would just say dont risk your health at work.I have read too many obituaries and been to the funerals so look after yourselves.

In the last week there’s 3 of us carrying injuries; I’ve done my back, our regular agency mate’s trying to carry 4x sacks with a pulled calf (watching him limp with that weight on is painful enough), and another has a nagging shoulder problem. Oh and another jacked to go back to the building trade.
I love the driving/curtainside work but hate most of the handball (so much is so unnecessary) but it’s paying the mortgage with some to spare.

So this is why drivers’ mates are hard to get?

So carrying 7.5 ton 26 days ago did you some good then, take your time and if to much to do take it back that way you keep working.
Got a department meeting to discuss wages, delivery rota changes, new ideas etc on the same day as the chiropractor appointment so I’ll know by next week whether the cv needs dusting off
