There is an exemption from the EU regulations for “Vehicles being used to carry animal waste or carcasses that are not intended for human consumption”.

If this is what you are carrying then it looks like you’re legally on Domestic regulations in which case a log book would be fine.

thanks for reply,but do drivers hours and regs remain the same or is this open for abuse,other drivers seem to be clocking up many hours.

Domestic rules are very different to EU rules.

Domestic rules basically mean that:

Driving time is restricted to 10 hours a day.
Daily duty time is restricted to 11 hours a day.
If you drive for less than 4 hours on each day of the week you are exempt from the daily duty time restriction.
There’s not much in the way of break or rest requirements except that you should be properly rested.

It should be noted that driving for domestic rules means any-time that you’re at the controls of the vehicle with he engine running for the purpose of controlling it’s movement.
