Drivers' hours quiz - poorly worded question

The company I work for are currently having an ‘infringement awareness month’ and produced this little quiz for us to complete ‘just for fun’.

here is one of the questions:

On how many occasions a week can you reduce your daily rest?
a. You can’t
b. Twice in a week
c. Three times in a week
d. Four times as long as you inform your manager.

now, we all know the question should be worded: ‘On how many occasions between weekly rest periods can you reduce your daily rest?’ but i am going to work out the answer to the actual question asked (note - it doesn’t say ‘fixed week’, and remember that a reduced daily rest can still occur without a >13 hour shift.

What answer would you give?

e. I won’t

Obviously the answer is c, just a poorly worded question as you say. And for future reference, the fixed week has nothing to do with duty time

There is no correct answer given to the question posed so I would add the answer
e - 3 times between weekly rests

This question on the official LGV theory test does not have the correct answer listed :unamused:

so if you were to work out the actual correct answer what would you come up with?

Rog has answered. Or put " none of the above".

ok, imagine the original question is not multiple choice and requires an answer. now answer it!

I agree there is no correct answer in the options, so write the correct answer (3 times between weekly rest periods) on the sheet and teach the bosses something

To know exactly how many reduced daily rest periods are possible in a week we would need to know the shortest shift length each day.

Generally the answer would be 6 but if you wanted to get really pedantic (for pedantic read daft  ) about it you could go to extremes with shifts of 5 minutes or less, in which case the sky’s the limit.

Yessss! finally someone as pedantic (daft) as me!! I made the answer 10, based on 20 minute shift lengths. i just wanted other people’s take on it - just to double check my answer was all good.
