If I leave the depot on a Sunday evening and work a normal week can I still drive back on a Saturday morning, the previous and next weeks would be normal 5 day weeks.

hi mate you can start on Sunday and finish Saturday, if say you start work on Sunday at 9am you must be finished by 9am Saturday
Thats what I thought but the boss thinks different The reason the question came up is because one of our drivers nearly ended up weekended out.
The boss keeps talking about shifts, but as far as we can see the regs talk about 24 hour periods therefore in one week you can work on seven subsequent days as long as the last day finishes more than 24 hours earlier than the first day of that weeks work, is that right?
then you do that shift the rest on sat may be a reduced rest it depends on what day and time you go back to work,if its a reduced rest and the hours would need to be paid back by the end of the third week
you would not be able to do that all the time
if say you do it and when you finish on sat you would have to have 24 hours off before you can go back to work and then pay he 21 hours back by the end of the third week

i may be wrong so i will wait for headmaster to see

if your boss want’s to do shifts the best way would be one driver does nights and one does day and there say on that shift that way you may make them work so you can get your full weely rests in
my mate works Sunday to Friday and always gets is 45 every week it the time you start on Sunday that make it work

This one’s gonna be fun…
The headmaster’s study is just along the corridor…

i have edited it Dave but still standing at the headmasters door waiting to see if i was wrong as usual
just looked at the previous forum about the same(ish) subject, but surely you could just say that you have had an extra 9 or 11 hours rest in your 6, 24 hour periods, surely the law is about too much WORKING time not too many REST PERIODS?

4th week, not third

So near yet so far. 7/10 for again missing important words out when reading the regulations.

I aint tachograph or coffeeholic but I’ll see if I can help.
I would like to know these times please so I can see the weekly rest issues if any -
Sun start at …
Sat finish at …
Restart on …day at …

Del is correct - you have 144 hours in which you can do as many ‘shifts’ as you like and as use as many cards as you like as long as the daily rest requirements are kept to.
whilst I was composing this a GURU has answered but I’ll still post it and take my chances on a caning

Yes you can. That’s it, simple question, simple answer. Sorted, next?
i forget to put this bit at the end
it must be compensated for by an equivalent period of rest taken in one block
before the end of the third week following the week in question

Nice save. You should get 10/10 next time.

Yes Malc, it’s shame about that.
Even with the extended opening hours, they’d have slung us out long before this one ends.
Mind you, the world is now back in equilibrium now that delboytwo has had his weekly slippering.
Sorry Del, but I could see this one coming…

It might be just me, but I thought it was fairly clear that there wasn’t a weekly rest issue by reading the OP’s question…

Me too. As I said a couple of posts back a simple question with an equally simple answer. Nothing to do with weekly rest, compensation or anything else. No need for details such as start/finish times, as the OP said Sunday evening - Saturday morning, which tells anybody answering the question all they need to know.
Thanks for the replies all, its all clear now
