An Irish chap once told me"never keep any tachos…if you get pulled…tell them the dog ate them…if they ask you where the dog is…tell them he ran away"

What’s your take on it then lads?
Ok it aint the crime of the century.
If it’s so trivial driving 11+ hours presumably with no breaks if they were on a teararse excercise, and not worth reporting, what do you reckon? …■■■■ it, lets go back to an eighties free for all?
Or what?

The job has gone way backwards anyway, all the way to the dark ages with regards expected working hours and pay. It is not a reputable profession nor is it in any way professional nowadays. Peanuts for peanuts is the order of the day.

ive never left them…hence moved over here…
it absolutely is trivial driving a working day of 15 hours or more, hence fiddle everything and work when you want and when you dont want to suit you.
not to crucify yourself only for the firms benefit, but to just get the job done with a bit of flexibility for all concerned.
theres plenty that are happy like that, and as newer blood enters the industry, theres plenty of paid from the neck down tosco/stobart lemmings…just each to their own.

No ,is it referring to the use of a magnet ?

Driver-Once-More:
acording to the article, the company is no longer trading

My mate drove for them. As far as I recall Westram was a phoenix company, it previously went bust under another name.

Westram did caravan and mobile home transportation taking loads up to 14ft wide. Not the best thing to be doing when you’ve had no sleep.

Had nowt to do with being scared of their boss or losing their job and everything to do with putting more money in their pocket.

And you’re so stupid you can’t even work out the reason you’re on crap money is because of what you and your fellow star drivers are doing. And if you don’t think its for the firms benefit then all I can say is they’ve done a top job on brainwashing you. Then again its easy to brainwash stupid people into believing they run bent because they decide to.

once again the oracle has spoken. no more to be said there.
a classic example of beancounters for beancounting.
plobberjob nightshift trunk…each to their own.
the only thing missing now it tramp/dozy/joe popping up to stir it up some more once he finishes his shift again,…he/thy might remember to resurrect the dr seeing as he has been noticably absent…

I purposely did not respond to you DD as I’m never sure how much of a percentage of your posts are wind ups and fishing excercises.
If you are genuine we are never going to agree on this mate.
I suppose I’m like an ex smoker, always banging on about the dangers of health to other smokers, and maybe being a bit of a pain in the arse to said smokers.
As I said I wrote the book on ■■■■ taking in relation to driver’s hours, we all flounted them in the 80s, it was second nature.
There is no way in hell I am going to risk doing time for something ■■■■ up job related, and I reckon anybody who does today is a bloody fool.
If you get away with it, fair play absolutely Jack ■■■■ to do with me as I aint a cop or DVSA, and I won’t insult you by coming back with the ‘‘It’s only a matter of time’’ as I expect you accept that…ref Boyles at Carlisle court about 8yrs ago :bulb:
What I will say is, have you thought how better off you would be (again if you are being genuine…still not convinced  ) if your boss paid you in a proper per hour plus overtime rather than in ‘black rate’
These firms only advocate drivers working like this because drivers do it. If they didn’t the pay rates and methods would have to be brought out of the 80s, and drivers would be financially better off, …instead of them having to run with eyes sticking out like bulldog’s ■■■■■■■■ to subsidise a crap haulage rate.
As I said mate, we’ll never agree, but Smokey and The bandit should be looked on as an 80s movie, …not a drivers manual/documentary.

Scum of society you and all those like you. Lorry driving equivalent of a kiddy fiddler. How many kids have died because of [zb] drivers with your mentality? 3 kids and their mother killed in August by a [zb] like you. Same month 8 people in a minibus killed by two [zb] like you. 12 people killed in a month by people with the attitude you and the [zb] who support you have.

Here come the eternally offended.

3 kids and their mother killed in August by Polski on the phone
8 people in a minibus killed by drunk Polski in his bed

Comparing a driver who does an extra hour to a child molester is the single most ridiculous statement anyone has ever posted on here.

id be no better off wage wise compared to your normal truckies wage.
id be having to stop and start when dictated to,and depending on how strict the comany was then,id be as well have my brain removed and go to work for tesco.
it all depends where you want to draw the line for job satisfaction vs wages, and self esteem…
just watch every truck coming off the boats, and its not hard to work out what way they all make their wages.
theres seldom a truck in the north, and certainly never a truck in the south that would get into trouble for being on the limiter on a decent A road…
you would be more likely to get greif for sticking to 40 as you would stand out like a sore thmb.(apart from tesco doing their rolling road block)

I didn’t really want to go down the wife/kids/bus load of orphans and puppies route like some have, as it just attracts ridicule.
That ignored, the fact is as I said we are supposed to be pro.s,
Where’s the professionalism when drivers are taking cards out, hiding hours and all the rest of it.
How come they come down on you pretty financially hard for relatively minor infringements, but basically let off with a suspended ‘yellow card’ sentence for blatant disregard and severe ■■■■ taking.

We can work legally 70+ hours, do 90 hours driving in a fortnight…Is that not enough for these guys, and some of you who appear to be bordering on condoning it…get a grip ffs. :unamused:

The hours should be cut in line with 21st century working conditions, not some idiots finding ways to do even more. :imp:

When I started we were maxing 12.5 hour days, the [zb] job has gone backwards.

I aint a n’er do wrong snowflake either by any stretch.
Any method of fiddling there has been (and some that some of you will not know about) I have done in the 80s, but this is 2017 ffs, those days are (or should be) long gone.

The job needs a cleaner image from those days, clowns with Class 1s and guys like these are doing nothing for that. :bulb:

I think we need to differentiate sleep deprivation ( daily/weekly rest provision offences ) in that. While it also shows the stupidity of tachos. In that at the end of the day a driver on log books with the right attitude is safer than a driver who intends to run bent ruled by a tacho with no card or chart in it.Having said that bearing in mind the ridiculous hours regs of 15 hour shifts but stopping a driver at 9 hours driving a few miles from base. There’s a reasonable case that it’s often the regs themselves that are the problem not suicidally tired drivers.

On that note we don’t know the exact motives of the drivers involved. If it was just a case of extending the ridiculous driving time limit that’s a very different level of wrong doing than the idea of 13-15 hours in a shift not being enough.

The former deserving no more than a slap on the wrist and review of the drivers’ hours regs.In which case it’s obvious that on one hand the daily driving time limit needs to be increased/relaxed together with the daily rest period being increased and made a line in the sand on the other. Then increase the ‘penalty’ for running bent to a mandatory charge of dangerous driving and prison no ifs no buts.IE more sensible fit for purpose rules and less silly control freak rules put on those who then intend to follow them. While increasing the penalty deterrent for those who obviously intend to run dangerously bent, involving sleep deprivation, regardless and who obviously won’t let a tacho stop them. :bulb:

While as it stands the regs are more about deliberately handicapping long distance transport operations. While maximising trucks being used as temporary warehouse space with their knackered drivers spending too long awake, during 24 hours,on POA ‘standby’ going no where. The result being potentially awake safe drivers being criminalised as part of a too short driving time regime and tired drivers working legally as part of a too short daily rest regime. :unamused:

It all goes down to …
Responsible professionals. v Duckers and divers.
You mention self esteem, iIt depends which route you want to go down, and how you see yourself…
A bit like getting laser eye surgery for 1000 quid +, and at a recognised registered clinic.
OR
A cut price job for 50 notes off a guy who tells you to meet him under the viaduct…
We’ll just agree to differ mate eh?
