So on my day off on Wednesday I went to drivers direct in Runcorn, and registered, I had to be classed as self employed to get work off them. :S
Apparently a company “PML” in London sorts everything out including forming a limited company with companies house etc all I want to do is drive and get some experience.
With this sorted and telling them that I’m available Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday as they’re my guaranteed days off from my chef job, he can get me work with Harvey’s in warring on the class 2.
After a few weeks/months move me into class 1 up at Appleton in Warrington with Eddie stobarts I’m just waiting for that phone call now hopefully this will be my foot in the door, if I get continuous work I may leave my other chef job.
Cheers Dar,
Luckily my mum is a finance director and has overseen the paperwork/contract she says its borderline legal as I will be paying little tax etc with dividends Etc.
But as you said hopefully this means ill get some experience now even with starting for a bit on class 2 before I jump into class 1 with stobarts.
I was offered that self employed contract also where trying to push me onto it I smelt a rat so looked at the examples and realized that you are worse off on it you dont pay NI and they get a cut so i declined. The tune turned from, we have loads of work to you have been on agency’s for a year so we can’t take you on?! I have had so much rubbish with agency’s I am glad I am through with them crap pay crap hours and treated like vermin
When i signed to DD i had to go onto umbrella company. I was offered a job a few weeks later but turned it down as i was getting regular work from another agency PAYE.
As someone here said- these payment schemes make their money by leeching off your cut. TBH i don’t trust DD much they seemed to spout even more of the agency crap than usual.
I know from previous threads that you’ve got your heart set on working for ESL, but I can’t help but think this agency are making you promises that might never materialise.
The self-employment thing seems like a really odd set-up, and surely if ESL are hiring drivers then wouldn’t you be better just going to them direct yourself? Also, didn’t you say you had a full-time job offer from Fagan and Whalley? I don’t get why you’d mess about like this with an agency etc to “get a foot in the door” if F&W had offered you a job already, and you were also waiting to hear back from ESL?
Hi,
F&w had a position too far away from me I thought they had offered me a job for the St. Helens depot which is the closest to me.
I’ve been short listed for stobarts In Widnes but its a matter of when I will be called for assesment so need some agency work whilst I’m Waiting for that phone call,
The main reason for wanting to work for esl is I know a few people in there so would be good to have them to turn to when I’m in doubt
Did you not ask F&W about getting in at a depot closer to home? Or being based where they wanted but parking up at the depot closer to you when you’re off?
Hope the agency thing works out, and hope it’s not as dodgy as it sounds!
Where was the other depot? If you were gonna be out all week, it might not have been much of a problem if you could’ve got back to St Helens at some points etc. Oh well!
Couldn’t help but notice in the news this morning a little investigative piece on ISS ltd (who are the umbrella I had to register with at Drivers Direct) mainly the report focuses on supply teachers though.
