drivers cpc

can anybody tell me if i can start the next lot of drivers cpc, have already got my cpc card having done 5 days training and was wondering if i can start the next lot or have i got to wait till september next year, thanks.

As soon as the new card is issued the next ‘5 year block’ starts and you can chip away at the 35 I believe.

That would be true if the OP had just finished his initial DCPC, but he’s mentioned 5-days training, so I’m guessing it must be a periodic DCPC that’s being discussed.

If I’m correct about that, any training undertaken before next September won’t count for anything towards the next lot of 35hrs because there’s no ‘carry over’ option in the 5-yr blocks.

This depends on when a person passed their car test, and sometimes it depends on when a person passed their Cat C test.

Presumably, Dave, to ensure that we all end up sitting in a classroom once a year instead of doing it all in a block?

Hi Sidevalve,

No mate, there’s nothing to say that the training can’t be done in a block.
My use of the word ‘block’ wasn’t a good choice of word. :frowning:
A driver has the choice of whether he does the training as one day per year, or all in a block, or any combination of those.

The rule I didn’t quite explain properly is that extra training (= more than 35hrs) done in ‘this’ 5 year cycle can’t be carried over into the next 5 year cycle.

Sorry for any misunderstanding.

When to take Driver CPC periodic training

It’s up to you when you take the training courses, as long as you do them within 5 years.

gov.uk/driver-certificate-o … c-training

When the 5-year period starts

Each 5-year period starts from 5 years before your current Driver CPC qualification runs out - not from the date you completed your last 35 hours of training.

For all ‘acquired rights’ drivers it started on:
10 September 2008 for category D, D1, D+E and D1+E drivers
10 September 2009 for category C, C1, C+E and C1+E drivers

You must complete your 35 hours of periodic training in the 5 years before the earliest expiry date if you’ve got bus and lorry entitlements and want to keep your Driver CPC for both.

so If you have GFR and done all your training ready and your card runs out 9 9 2019 any additional training before 9 9 2019 wont count

Periodic dcpc (the 35 hours) training can only count if within 5 years of the expiry date of the current or ghost(grandfather rights) DQC (driver cpc card)

When does the current or ghost DQC expire? - if more than 5 years time then further dcpc hours will not count
THERE IS ONE EXCEPTION - for those with both LGV & PCV acquired/grandfather rights who have a DQC expiry dated 09/09/2019 then as a ONE-OFF dcpc hours will count for 6 years from 09/09/2013 to 09/09/2019
This is due to the PCV & LGV one year difference

i already have my class 2 from 2007 can anyone tell me which cpc module i need to do; is it just the 35hr one for upto 5 yrs

You need any 35 hours of your choice by 09/09/2014 if you want to continue driving commercially after that date

Ok Thank you.
