Drivers cpc

Well ive just completed my last 7 hours of the drivers cpc.I have done the exact same 7 hour course today and yesterday and i am totally bewildered to what on earth its all about .I learned yesterday and then again today how to safely exit and climb into a cab.I have learnt how to pull (not push it may injure me) a pallet truck ,how to bend my knees and pick up a box ,ive been instructed on what details i need to gain in the event of an accident.I also learned today that i need to secure my load before moving off and watched a dvd of a forklift driver loading steel onto a flatbed then the driver strapping it on.I learned how to use a walkway when delivering to different sites and was told to be diligent at all times making sure i dont get mowed down by forklift trucks.I have seen all sorts of things in duplicate in the last 2 days that basically come down to common sense .The real cherry on the cake was the instructor is doing this course all week with different drivers ,and as been for quite a while now but he too then as to have another instructor instruct him ,he needs 35 hours training too .This course is charged at £78 per session there is no pass or fail and i could sit (if i could manage to keep my eyes open) the whole week doing the exact same session and would be qualified .Ever feel you`re being had?

aint started mine yet.it makes my blood boil when i think about it… :imp:

Its a farce and a money making racquet , its as much use as when you`re driving in thick fog and approaching a flashing warning sign which you cant make out at first but when you get close enough warns you of fog

had mine couple of year now its a load of bull

The fact of the matter is that this another piece of european crap enforced on an already overburdened occupation within the transport industry, even worse for a company like ours as we have to get fifteen drivers through this at our cost with no compensation. What bothers me is are our european partners who enforced us into this going to take part, or is it going to be just us Brits who dot the I’s and cross the T’s as in most laws forced on us, they either ask for extra time to complete or just dont bother, where is this level playing field ? It’s like the toll our goverment were going to introduce on foriegn trucks entering our shores, this was talked about on the millenium but no sign of it happening just yet because they dont want to upset anyone of our european partners, hogwash i say if you go to there countries you pay from the off by road toll or day tax or both and if you dont pay the tax and get caught its a huge fine.Amonth ago we got fined in Germany for having two diesel tanks on one of our trucks 500 euro’s with no redress, the truck and others in our fleet have been there many times before with no problem and these are factory fitted i feel this is just not fair. The Dutch and Belgians no longer wish to go to Spain for the same reason, rediculous fines for jumped up misdemeanors as the Spannish are backs to the wall and broke, where will all this end or do we just give up,the problem with this is its not in our nature and at the end of the day all we are trying to do is make a living, cheers disgruntled Buzzer.

Try doing “Driver Welfare” then gents; I learnt such gems as “smoking’s bad for you” and also had to "guess the calories in a Big Mac (other inedible brands of fast food are availale). I have to say since workimg for an agency, I’ve learned more than on any DCPC course; Fridges, tail lifts, curtainsiders and multi drop. If my job application is successful, nights out will be part of the syllabus too.

Steel & strapping !! - I thought chains were to hold steel with ?

You’re missing the Point Rog , common sense isnt allowed you’re learning everything from scratch on these courses no thinking and certainly no practical advise they know best

i think it could be a good idea for newly passed drivers to take this as a one off.but every five years is blatent robbery.as for old hands taking it is just the prick who thought of it laughing in your face…if i knew how or who to protest to i would.

Instead of DCPC, how about “Driver Refresher Training”? Every 2-3 years, a one day course that reiterates hours, transport/traffic laws, highway code updates etc.

Yeh it’s great fun, we’ve sat through three up to present, all done on the 28th dec, a day out of our holidays, but the company does pay so that’s a plus. We’ve had all the crap mentioned above and I’ve got to say its just utter crap, the only one that I thought to be of any use was the drivers hours one, which was total waste of time because they explained European and domestic in the same session, so everybody just ended up even more confused. The thing that I find hard to grasp is this loading from the headboard, one of my collections is from a roof tile company and some lorries, 45" trailers put a full load on from the front, that can’t be right to me, the load ends before the trailer axles, you can play 5 a side football at the back of the trailer, how can that be right or legal? As mentioned if thought through I think it would be a good thing, seeing what you see everyday, some people’s standards towards the job that I class as a profession leave a lot to imagination and its the old story of somebody that’s read a big thick book trying to tell some of us what we’ve been doing for our lifetime, but that’s just my view on it but I’m just a miserable owd git apparently :frowning:

Look at it another way. Think of all the ‘silly’ questions that get posted on here. And some by ‘qualified’ drivers.

There should definitely be something in place. It just needs a rethink on the content.

So what did we all do before DCPC and the internet ?

So why does the trainer who delivers the course 5 days a week and knows it off by heart have to then sit it?

Daft rules …

What their ought to be is a specific trainers test that each trainer must pass for each type of course they deliver - perhaps that way some might find out they are giving out incorrect information - but that cost would need to be recovered from guess who …

I experienced exactly the same. I couldn’t understand why “ferry mode” and domestic regs were read out to a room full of tipper drivers. I expected the drivers hours course to be a full 7 hours, but the afternoon got wasted with driver welfare. Still, I’m a safer driver knowing (now forgotten) how many calories there are in a Big Mac.

Some good points, just a money making scheme I don’t think anybody gains anything knowledge wise really, oh I’m sorry, I now know after all these years how to get in and out of the cab I wondered where I’d been going wrong

I spent a whole day learning that roll cages are dangerous!!

What a load of ball ■■■■■. Common sense is dead, RIP. How the hell did we manage to survive without the nanny state? :imp:
Stuff the EU with their endless rules and regulation. Bring on the referendum, I’m voting OUT.
