Surprised he didn’t get a custodial sentence for that one.

Also in Kent another tragic accident.

The truck overturned. Looks like a residential area too. Sadly the car driver was killed.

I agree he was very lucky to get a suspended sentence, it was discussed in this thread

He’s lost his job, lost his licence (which not only prevents him from driving a HGV but limits him from getting a job outside of a certain area, knock on is he probably loses his house, creditworthiness and Ting Tong 7000 miles is no longer interested in him) and he very nearly lost his life.
Does he really need to go to jail?
Didn’t say he should go to jail, just said he escaped jail. But considering the nature of the accident , he was lucky. But more luckily, no one was killed.

I think he was lucky he didn’t lose his own life.
But again he has lost his car entitlements, his HGV entitlements, his job. So where does he go from there and how exactly is he lucky, considering his life is now pretty much ■■■■■■?

I agree with you mate, the guy is obviously a bit dim to start with, but now at least he is no longer a threat on our roads to the rest of us.
Presumably his life is now a complete crock of ■■■■ because of all thus, so jailing him would be like sticking the boot into his head while he was down on the ground after getting a good beating.
Nobody was killed, ok…if there had have been then things would be very different, but you can’t jail him purely for the reason of what the outcome could have been…His life is now purely on it’s arse, he has no doubt learned his lesson …and then some.
So in my view nothing could be achieved by locking him away.
Loving the ‘Ting Tong’ reference btw.
Speaking of…I knew of a driver who used to send ALL of his wages to his ‘betrothed’ in Thailand who he saw once a year, he lived in his cab,.and even one Christmas was spent in his firm’s yard sat in his truck on his jack, as he had no money.
What a ■■■■ .
I note that the report found financial damages caused by delays into the many millions.
I wonder if we’ll see that mentioned when our “friends” from Just Stop Oil get their day in front of a judge?

Yes wouldn’t it be good if hauliers could privately prosecute Just stop oil for the financial losses they incurred?
The chief Constable of Kent police has already said that they could already use powers to go after their assets and give unlimited fines. Better to financially ruin people than send them to jail for three months where they become martyrs.

His life isn’t necessarily ruined though. Yes he won’t be driving HGVs for a long time again, but there are other jobs out there. He’ll be doing a non driving job by next week. HGV driving is only one industry.
I was always under the impression that a guilty plea was the way to reduce your sentence. But he didn’t at first, caused more costs and ‘hours of legal argument’ before changing his plea.
This may be going against the concensus but a little jail time would act as a deterant to him and others for trying it on. Video calling whilst driving ffs.
Incidentally I don’t see why the 7000 miles is relevant.

I’d say “yes”; a short sojourn at His Majesty’s Pleasure does not seem inappropriate, especially given how it was so very close to a repeat of the Bowburn A1M incident.
He lives with his mother, so he had no house to lose, and has allegedly now married his “fiance”, though she is unable to enter the country for visa/immigration reasons, so that wouldn’t be an obstacle if she wants to (continue to?) live the life of a single woman.
His “nothing to do with me, Guv” attitude which irks - didn’t see any other vehicles affected by alleged diesel on the road.
In the normal way changes his plea at the trial incurring unnecessary costs, waster.
I am not sticking up for this driver …but had he been an illegal immigrant with no licence ,and no insurance in a police chase doing 103 mph in a built up area on the wrong side of the road…along with lots of crimes since he arrived on our shores he might have got a suspended sentence and training because he was sorry
