Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency just posted this

Vehicle operators - take note :exclamation:
On Friday 19 August, at Leatherhead in Surrey, we stopped this lorry and trailer on the M25 after noticing smoke coming from the rear of the trailer.
A total of 10 dangerous defects were identified by our vehicle examiner. These included:

  • a very loose wheel :x:
  • most of the tyre missing :x:
  • wheel nuts and studs missing :x:
  • loose wheel nuts on another wheel❌
  • inoperative brakes :x:
  • defective suspension :x:
The vehicle was fully laden, travelling at speed and had just changed lanes in front of our vehicle to overtake others. The issues found show that the operator’s maintenance regime needed to be improved.
The driver was advised about checks to make after wheel/tyre changes – the tyre that had blown out was new and recently fitted! He was also advised to check other visible items on his vehicle during his walk round check.
    Penalties issued:
  • £100 roadwheels
  • £100 tyre condition
  • £50 lights
  • £100 dangerous condition
Time to look at your vehicle maintenance regime and step up your walkaround checks. Make sure this doesn’t happen to one of your vehicles and keep it safe on the road.

Driver got off very lightly, i hope the company doesn’t get so lucky

Nothing like rushing for the boat. If anyone has ever worked for foreign operators the top question when you call to report a defect/breakdown is ‘can you make the boat?’

Looks like one of them ‘furigners’ - Fine them on the spot before they disappear.

Doubt if the average Romanian village knows what a TC is let alone where their office is.

Or as the French would do impound the wagon and take the drivers licence and post it home to their DVLA office 2nd class mail.

on a related note - anyone know the story behind the red curtainsider and unit parked up at Todhills (Carlisle VOSA weighbridge )? It must be parked up going on 2 weeks now . I noticed it when I saw one of his mates handing a LIDL bag over the gates to him one Friday evening but that 2 weekends ago .

Outstanding fines? Lorry impounded until paid?

The driver was stopped at Beattock heading south and found to have no license. The company sent another driver to get the truck but then he got out and the original driver took over again, so they stopped him at Todhills. He’ll be waiting for another driver to turn up and the fine to be paid.
