You should not exceed 6 hours working time without a break of at-least 15 minutes, the regulations don’t actually stipulate a length of time for the 6 hour rule break but as 15 minutes is the least break that counts for the working time regulations the break is assumed to be that.
If you work more than 6 hours but not more than 9 hours you should have a total of 30 minutes break/breaks for the working time regulations, this break can be taken in two separate breaks of at-least 15 minutes each.
If you work more than 9 hours you should have a total of 45 minutes break/breaks which can be split into separate breaks of at-least 15 minutes each if you prefer.
The Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005:
Breaks7.–(1) No mobile worker shall work for more than six hours without a break.
(2) Where a mobile worker’s working time exceeds six hours but does not exceed nine hours, the worker shall be entitled to a break lasting at least 30 minutes and interrupting that time.
(3) Where a mobile worker’s working time exceeds nine hours, the worker shall be entitled to a break lasting at least 45 minutes and interrupting that period.
(4) Each break may be made up of separate periods of not less than 15 minutes each…
