Driver snared as police seize HGV in town

What a strange write up/article, how would the officers know it was not insured by just looking at it?

It doesn’t say if they were on a foot patrol or in a police vehicle.

Can the UK police find out if a foreign vehicle is not insured when the alarm goes off on their ANPR equipment that instantly tells officers if it’s legal on the road or not?

A vehicle registered in the UK that’s not insured, has no valid VED and no MOT will flag up on their system.

Would they have asked the driver to provide proof of insurance to get him or her to get the policy up on the tablet, or mobile phone?

Mrs has never allowed me to insure her car after she ended up in the back of a police car in tears after they’d stopped her driving my car for no insurance , I just assumed you were ins tpft to drive another car if you had full.comp on your ins , always read the small print , the policy I took out for her was fully comp but did not cover you to drive another on that ins
Worst bit was my mrs had popped down to pick up my girl from a club so was only in a skimpy nightie
Anyway back on the subject , who’d drive never mind ins a Renault , waste of money

It doesn’t say it was stopped due to ANPR etc. It’s just possible they stopped it and asked the question.

That’s sounds very upsetting for the wife Dozy, a lot of people get caught out for not being insured for not having business insurance.

The people that do food deliveries in vans, cars, motorcycles and mopeds get a nasty surprise when the vehicle is seized by the RPU.

They may be insured with third party or comprehensive but not for business insurance.

Another example is a school cleaner that is asked by the school staff to move some stationary equipment from one school to another school and the driver is remunerated, if not insured for business as money has been paid that could be a problem.

Cheers Acorn, I assumed it was a foreign tractor unit until I zoomed in to see the RHD steering wheel.

Stuar , yes the decent copper did say this happens regularly, he was decent as he let wife drive her car home , and I drove mine home
Wifevhas still never forgiven me !!

I bought a new car well second hand once. Got it all insured etc
Was driving along in loocal area police were out doing spot checks etc.
They pulled me over said not insured said bought car few days ago they didn’t believe me . I didn’t have my phone or proof on me.
Had go home get proof got told you have an hour to get back if not it’s being scrapped in.
I got back gave proof.
Didn’t apologise was just told our amor can sometimes take upto 4 days to update so always carry your document around to save any trouble

Read the article further down past all the adds says this

Specials’ have the same powers and responsibilities as regular officers including investigating crimes, dealing with violence and public order incidents, helping to find missing persons and attending the scenes of road traffic collisions.

Over the last year, the Specials Road Safety Unit has been cracking down on motoring offences, volunteering hundreds of hours a month.

Sad state this country is in when volunteers are doing the job police authorities should be doing.

Ady, let’s hope the Mrs has let you off and you are not in the dog house or on the naughty step.

Can I just say, a woman in a skimpy nighty will never get a fine from the police. :+1:

As a driver much like being a lorry driver these are things you should know and check, ignorance is no defence when it comes to law. It used to be the case that FC automatically covered you to drive other cars TPFT but for quite some years is not included in all FC policies automatically anymore.

The trailer in the photo is from LKW Walter, the driver must be an owner driver or an employee to the sub contractor.

try removing it if it is included. I dont want it no one else drives my car and if there was an emergency of some sort i would call up and have them put on the policy temporarily so that way they are covered fully comp.

I agree but a FC policy for a good few years at least now has not automatically given the right the drive other cars TPFT anymore. It used the be the case that all FC policies did cover you. I’d say it’s been probably 5 years easily that being covered is an automatic right. Probably and darn sight linger in reality.

To be fair we all go to work as a driver. How do we know if it has tax mot insurance etc.
Ok can check online if it has an MOT.
But we just turn up and presume everything is mot insured etc

There is a defence in law for this. I don’t know the correct legal jargon but it basically states that an employee can reasonably expect the vehicle to be insured and taxed etc. obviously this doesn’t cover defects that I driver should have noted on his/her walk around

With the old fashioned paper VED discs in the windscreen, as drivers we could all have checked that on the walk around check.
We can still check the validity of the Operating Licence in the windscreen.
