Driver shortage?

I have received this letter from a local haulier, which suggests to me their is a driver shortage. They will also take newbies on.

At what cost though Paul , Being sceptic here mind on the rates.

I’ve heard of places taking newbies on with low pay and insurance accesses written into the drivers contract

I’m not sure how true it is. But during my assessment drive the other day at a big haulage company here in Spalding, the assessor said to me there desperate for drivers, as a lot of there drivers are near or past 65, and when the cpc comes in September, there all retiring, as they cant be doing with the hassle or cant be bothered.
Now, if this is the case for one firm, what about all the others?

I know quite a few of the drivers who work for them and they don’t leave. I think saying that speaks for itself.

Paul

Why not name the company ?

I’m not going to name the company as they sent the letter to me in confidence but anyone who passes with me I will give them their contact information.

So basically this is just another marketing ploy by a trainer on Trucknet-UK.

Lets be honest about it, anyone can come on here and claim to have had letters from companies asking for inexperienced drivers, I’ve no doubt the other trainers on here will be along shortly making similar claims :unamused:

TBH that above comment has annoyed me, why would I lie on here, I thought my reputation was above that comment.

Yes it’s an incentive for candidates to book with me but the letter is 100% genuine.

Only trying to help newbies not only to pass their test but give them a contact with the chance of employment.
Your entitled to your opinion.

What about those newbies that have already passed and are struggling to find their first job?

Can’t win on this one. Lol!

that letter looks like the standard spiel sent by agencies trying to fill their books with drivers so they don’t lose contracts when they come knocking.

the guys who taught me to drive had loads of letters but never recommended any agencies, they told me to speak to friends and family about who to sign up with as only a handful of agencies actually treat drivers with respect.

It’s not an agency it’s a well known haulage company.

Sorry to say this but if they are a well known Haulage company and they can’t get Drivers it says it all they pay crap money and treat their drivers like ■■■■.

That’s why they have to resort to sending letters to training company’s.
So in reality it’s not looking that good.

I think most newbies would take any driving job to gain experience.

Like I said I know a few drivers who work for the company and they have been there years.

It says in the letter they will slowly let you gain experience through the licence categories eventually moving on to class 1.

IMO this is a sign of a good company, so I don’t understand the negative comments!

Paul

Tachograph your comments about Paul"s post being just a marketing ploy by a trainer are a bit low although it may be your opinion. I have met Paul and consider myself a pretty good judge of character and he is a man of honour.

His original post did not appear a marketing tactic at all and only when asked about the identity of the company did he respond saying the letter was confidential and that he would pass the details to Elmet Passes. Something the author had asked for.

We don’t get many apologies on here but that deserves one mate.

Far be it from me to suggest that I might know where the jobs are - it would only be a marketing ploy of course.

I’d best keep quiet I think!!

I like the idea of being a feeder company.

Paul

So what you are saying is newbies should put up with being treated like ■■■■ and take crap money after lining your pocket with circa £2to3grand to pass the test.
And before you try and attack I’ve done your job with a very good pass rate and I certainly wouldn’t recommend any company that would pay crap money and treat a driver like ■■■■.
I’m back on the road because it suits me.

If you read the letter it says they will let drivers gain experience through the licence categories. Which to me is the best way forward and the sign of a good company

You are only assuming they pay crap wages. I think your putting 2+2 together and getting 5.

I don’t get your negative comments.

Well if they paid a good rate of pay they wouldn’t be sending out letters to training company’s looking for drivers.

And my negative comments are as above and to me it’s just a marketing ploy on your behalf to get more trainees with the promise of work with a company that is more than likely going to treat them like ■■■■ and pay them poor money.
So il call your bluff if they are that good a company name them or try and deny this is not a marketing ploy.

Proof will be in the pudding. Enough said now
