The irony you say there’s no conspiracy while stating a 15 hour day with a 9/10 hour daily and 90 hour fortnightly driving limit and in laughable denial as to the definition of any other duties which may be required during a shift.
The industry is now being called out on it by drivers who’d prefer to drive cars for the local garage than trucks.

What ever industry you look at, it’s a shortage of cheap labour. People will choose to work for the most money that is the easiest to earn. No different to a buisness man who wants to earn the most profit for the least investment or input.

Ah yes, your latest mythical invention
1 you stated 15 hours for a reason.
2 Not an invention first hand knowledge having worked with drivers in the car movement sector going by that exact logic.
Earn less driving cars than trucks, moan about the money, but laugh at the idea of driving trucks for all the reasons I’ve given.
So here we are HGV employers whingeing about a ‘driver shortage’ and me moaning about an over subscribed car movement sector.Ironically so oversubscribed that employers can get away with calling for the responsibilities of a qualified automotive engineering vehicle condition assessor, from unqualified drivers on almost minimum wage.

I’ve seen many a depot offering a so-called “Warehouse to Wheels” thing, but I’ve yet to see a single warehouse person I’ve ever met - actually go on to become a driver of anything larger than a puddle jumper, or tail lift 7.5t… Does ANY firm train up car licence holders to become C2 and C1 drivers any more?
Yep. A few years ago Howdens did a driver apprenticeship which they offered to non-driving staff, putting them through their Class 1 and then on the road. Once they’d passed their test they were put on shunting for a few weeks so they could get the hang of going backwards before doing the job for real. One of them after doing it a couple of years ended up in the office and is now a transport supervisor and because of first hand experience is a good one. They’ve put up posters recently saying they’re running it again.

Care to quantify that statement?
Have you yourself worked in that sector? If so when?
Or have you, as I suspect either (a) overheard a couple of trade platers ■■■■■■■■ about their job, or far more likely (b) read that on a forum somewhere and have decided that’s exactly how it is?

I’m going to take a totally wild stab in the dark and go with (b)

The fact you’re grasping around for work does make me wonder if giving up work to be a full time skiver in your early 40’s may have been just that……,.a skive. You always go on about being medically retired so how is it twenty years down the line you are looking for a job again? What gives?
Also worth noting that had you carried on with truck driving 20+ years ago you’d been in a much better position now. Like a huge number of people on this forum so it really isn’t a boast the fact is if my licence magically reappeared today I’d be working tomorrow after I made a few calls. It’s far from hard to find what you want. Well, for us, you’d think someone was refusing you a job if they sneezed frankly, you’re not the most robust of men at best time
Latest blog post for the inimitable Carryfast. I think he’ll especially enjoy this one, he even has a picture dedicated to him lorry-driver.com/2021/06/num … 7.html?m=1

You don’t need those rates, or indeed to work at all. Looking at that relic, any Nokia connoisseur would give you a mint for that rare beast
You definition of “a mint” must be different to mine as I don’t consider £15 to be one.
