Driver Shortage ?????

I’ve just been reading a few posts on here and there seems to be quite a few drivers looking for jobs me included. The reason there’s a driver shortage is that wages are crap rules and regulations are endless the good old jolly security guard has been replaced by complete ■■■■■■■■ (fasten your high viz before you enter our site). We are treated like second rate citizens and spoken to like naughty school kids. You can blame the shortage on the ridiculous drivers cpc but i think drivers are getting wise to this under paid over regulated job … rant over

There may well be localised driver shortages where the wage offered is so poor that you can earn more doing a much less risky job in particular regions of the country, but there is not a national driver shortage…

No shortage of licence holders, but a shortage of ‘proper drivers’ nowadays more like.

Risky job, how do you come to that conclusion?

One mistake,ie causing an accident and your banged up for a few years…not many jobs carry that risk and certainly not ones that pay such a pittance as hgv driving.

OMG That’s a bit dramatic. Having driven trucks for many years the only risk I felt was from other drivers.
Looking at the way a lot drive now though, yes one mistake and the they are doomed.
TBH I can think of plenty jobs that carry far more risk.

H&S has gone mad in this job everything must be strapped or mr vosa will have you.If it isn’t in his little guideline rule book its an offence. No common sense whatsoever. RDCs who think they rule the world .I just dont get any of it . Put your keys in the chute amd sit in thr waiting room for hours.Who thinls of these ideas.Maybe they should try the job and see how they like it

There’s a shortage for class 2 drivers on pallet network jobs etc, but mainly due to busting your nuts for nmw, on a ten hour shift. You can earn more than that for 8 hours stacking shelves, but that’s where the shelves analogy ends. There’ll never be a shortage on class one jobs, as 9/10 drivers can’t switch into another industry earning upwards of £30k pa next week

+1. There is no shortage of drivers.

Which is why the OP is not walking straight into another job despite looking for one.

Yeah risky because most of these fatalities are due to driver error or falling asleep.

Surely if there are “quite a few drivers looking for jobs” then there is no driver shortage. If there was a shortage, the employers would be looking for drivers, and the drivers would be choosing which ones to reject…

Tesco at Dagenham are screaming out for drivers I imagine they must offer a good deal

Regardless of who well you believe you drive, surely if you’re spending your day sharing the road with all these dangerous drivers, then wouldn’t it be logical to assume you are in a risky environment?

Truck driving is in the top 5 most dangerous jobs in the UK. It ranks number 4 according to HSE data.

Because trusting drivers to exercise common sense has resulted in tens of thousands of injuries and hundreds of deaths over the years. Load security is now under the spotlight because Highways Agency have got sick to death of picking loads off the road and the public have got sick of being stuck in miles of tailbacks because of the inability of these genii like yourself to secure a load properly. Every single day on Radio 2 traffic reports you hear of one or more instances of a delay caused by a lost load or recovery of an accident taking longer than it should whilst they clear up the spilled load. Interesting when you watch Highway Through Hell that they spend very little time having to pick up loads when a Canadian truck has gone on its side. The load usually looks exactly like it did before it went over and when they do have to pick it up its more often than not because it has been a reefer or box trailer and the sides have gone.

If it’s same offer as Peterborough depot, then it’s £10.49 pH, and bonus for nights

I think you will find its more a case of ticking boxes to exclude them from blame and justify the high wages of health and safety officers. Its the same thing with driver inductions sign here to exclude us from blame and if anything goes wrong guess who gets it

When enough people cannot and will not do the job any more - wages rise.

With Christmas coming, firms are already playing “leapfrog” with their offered rates - even if “only for Christmas”…

Get out there - and fill your boots.
