DCPCFML:
Blame the trampers. They’re the ones who cry like babies if they’re not getting their 78 hours a week. The rest of us who want to work normal hours have to suffer as a consequence as companies come to expect it because the trampers happily do it every week.
As much as I want to disagree and jump in to defend trampers I quite simply can’t. I worked at a place for 15 years where the trampers started at 0600 and finished at 1800, no exceptions. In all my time there I never reduced a rest period.
Where I’m at now they are without a doubt the greediest money grabbers I’ve ever witnessed. My boss jokes that he doesn’t know why they fill a timesheet in when they could just photocopy the same one showing 3x 15’s followed by 2 or 3x 13’s. I’m an exception there though because when I’m told I can do a 15 my response is invariably “so can you, but you won’t”. Or when they ask what time I’m working to I respond with “I’m happy to match your level of commitment, tell me what time you’re finishing and I’ll match it”.

Same as daydrivers really, I know plenty who regularly will run in on weekends and grab extra hrs whenever possible. Even so, nothing to do with anyone else what their circumstances and financial commitments are. Some people are born grafters, some actually enjoy the work where they are at and some may have no alternative.
That’s the truth of it you will always have the needy those that require more money and that’s fine.
You will also have the greedy were it’s never enough £300.00 an hour and they would still want more.
But let’s get a decent flat rate not just above minimum wage when you look past the smoke and mirrors.
The world has changed and people value their free time more.
