Anything is better than nothing but it depends what you are on to start, £30 on £300 is good but £30 on 80 hours is bad
a rise is a rise when so many are being cut to the bone, but an extra 5 days paid away from work is always a bonus!

Would that depend on how you got paid, if on a salary fine if on basic pay with bonus and overtime maybe not so good.
£480 a week plus £7.50 per day meal allowance
Plus £21.50 nightout
Plus £7.50 per ADR job
That’s about it…! Jobs in Trafford Park 65 hours per week though ![]()
i would still be willing to take the hit for an extra week away from work!
£21.50 is a bit low for night out money mind.
£480 before or after the rise
I get 18.50 for a night out and you think 21.50 is bad lol
I hope thats 480 take home?
The going rate for night out money should be the same as what it would cost to turn up at a random motel averaged out across the major firms like Travelodge, Days Inn, and Premier Inn.
That would be around £50. You can get it cheaper if booked way in advance - but who’s going to know where they will stay that night even as late as setting out that morning in a truck?
£50 for a night out seems fair. £18-£25 does not.
Then there’s some of the Eurotrampers who are not being paid for sitting in “Operation Stack”. Best to be paid by the hour here I guess, but that’s why you never get given tramping work on agency.
The biggest scams of course are:
You employ a European driver to come into you, or you employ a starving out of work northerner to tramp down the south of England. They’ll be working in an area where even the cleaner is on £10ph whilst they are having to argue the toss just to get £6.50ph without any deductions for umbrella, and insurance deposits… ![]()
If anyone thinks they are underpaid in the area they live now - imagine how much underpaid you are if you transport and mainly work in a more affluent paying part of the country?
That’s the reason I’m not keen to drive in London on days… I know my way around, and have plenty of experience of it - but I feel put out by earning less than every other truck around me I can see working out of local yards! ![]()

That is ■■■■, with no ADR it is less than £10 per hour if you do 4 night out and 5 day! Less than £8 if you take night out moneys off!
No surprise they have shortage

I got stuck out one time and the company paid for Days In at services and it was around 40 pounds and free parking. it was 20 for a parking ticket so only 20 for room. good idea if you want good sleep

That’s gotta be up there with some of the biggest load of nonsense I’ve ever read on this site.

We’re all a lot safer in this business with a decent sleep in a horizontal position, rather than slumped across the wheel in the morning traffic. ![]()

With our local laybys full of foreign and northern trucks - I think not.
When up north myself, the laybys are full of even more foreign trucks, and a few scotch ones - but strangely I struggle to find southerners tramping up north. Even myself being up there involves a 2x4hr24m drive, so I am not required to overnight in the hills… Sure, there’s going to be some somewhere - I’m only stating what I see.
When you’re desperate for somewhere to park - and everywhere is full - what, in everyone else’s experience - are the laybys full of in YOUR area?
the easiest way to earn the better money is to move to london then winseer pay london prices and then your winning?
having been brought up in the north east and living in the midlands i can say that my wages are not greatly higher than if i worked in the north, this is despite the fact my house would cost in the midlands a good 25-50k more than i could buy it in the north east.
i must admit winseer the argument of i wont drive in london as am paid less than the locals is one of the worst you have put across on here, its like me saying when i ran euro i lived like a king in greece etc.
i do however agree that £25 should be a minimum for night out especially as a crappy meal in a services is the best part of £10-15 min.
[emoji448] [emoji653] if this is a trumpet, then it is closely related to winseer. (And conor )

This is hilarious, I take it you haven’t done much in the way of tramping, by its very nature the job takes you to all parts of the country, I know it did when I was on it. then again it depends on what you call the North. Being from the mud way it’s probably around Watford.
