You do to get a convicted for first degree murder though (usually)
No such thing in UK law.

I always thought you had to “get up that morning intending to kill” for it to be “murder”?It doesn’t matter what time you decide to kill someone. You could mull it over at breakfast if you like. You could decide over a spot of lunch. You could lose all sense of reason and self control in a split second and drive over someone’s head because he threw coins at your lorry.
You don’t have to roll out of bed with murderous thoughts in your head to become a murderer.
You do to get a convicted for first degree murder .
You also need to be in a country or jurisdiction where they have varying “degrees” of murder. We don’t have this in the UK…

What does it take for a lorry driver to be in the wrong on here?
A known road rage driver runs over someone and people defend him.
Everytime a lorry hits another up the arse there’s always someone on here creating an excuse.
About time we all acknowledged that we have retards infesting our profession. That saying the deceased sounded like the sort of driver you’d happily avoid if he wears a hi viz out of work, throws coins at peoples’ cabs and plays policeman.
Blimey, I agree with you. I’m off for a lie down, oh wait, I already am
Every death caused by the driver of a vehicle should be regarded as manslaughter which gives a judge the greatest flexibility in sentencing

I’m sorry but thats one of the daftest comments Ive seen on here lately.

So (excusing the pun) we’ll be watering down drink drive related deaths then?

+1

WHY?
Because I could decide that I want to murder you ROG. If I did it with my car would it only be manslaughter in your [zb]ed up world?
Guys, it’s the same result if he was driving a Mondeo. Nothing to do with the fact he was in a HGV.
If he was a professional (off duty bus driver) driving a Suzuki Swift and ran the bloke over and killed him would there have been the same reaction ?

Sorry - should have said - instead of death by dangerous or reckless driving etc - not to replace murder
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what started the cat and mouse incident on the road, and did anyone know the deceased and what type of character he was.Good or bad, without speaking speaking ill of the dead mind.

Judge wants to get his facts right, EVERYONE knows that if your vehicle doesn’t bend then it’s a VAN not a “17 tonne lorry”
It did bend and the judge will have got his facts right. That lorry would have been gone over with a fine tooth comb. Everything would have been looked at… including its weight at the time of the incident.
I read on the other thread about this sad incident, that He was driving for Buckleys. They are mainly container hauliers. if Slater was pulling an empty 40’ container, then the trucks weight would have been around 17 tonnes, this is probably where the figure has come from. As stated unlikely for the Judge to get it wrong.
I did get your humour Newlad,
As for the action off Mark Slater, well he’s got along time to reflect on them. IMO part off being a Proffesional Driver, is knowing how to rise above the provacation of other road users, even if theyre in the wrong, and as such avoid a road rage incident starting in the first place. It is easier said than done sometimes, but there is no difference to that, than off avoiding getting into a fight with some lad who spills your beer on a boozy saturday night, and there are some who are serving time because they didnt. To end up using the vehicle as a weapon, is, as proved in a court of law, Criminal.

There has never TTBOMK been an offence of causing death by reckless driving in the UK. There has not been an offence of Reckless Driving for over a quarter of a century now.

I spoke to a Buckleys driver yesterday, and he wasn’t working for them, it was some firm in Rochdale who’s name he couldn’t remember.

As I said, I read it on the other thread about this, so I was just passing comment on that basis

Sad but true.Speak for your self, Kint!!!

He was observing and stating the opinion of the general public towards us drivers, not trying to insult drivers himself I reckon mate, so maybe the “Kint” thing was a bit uncalled for
I reckon that ■■■■■■ deserves all that he gets, professional displaying professionalism?..my arse!
A handbags situation on the road does not warrant taking a guys life, no matter how much he has ■■■■■■ you, and the “notches” that Albion refers to, of which there are very few, will be even further down now when it comes to Trucker/public perception.
