Driver NVQs

Good idea or waste of time? I’ve got one and it’s not made a bit of difference to my wages. All it was was some ex squaddie riding shotgun and taking photos. He wanted to record or film me answering questions which I refused to do on the grounds of it feeling a bit ginger beer.

I’ve just done one of these bit pointless but it’s another ticket my boss paid for  are these compulsory like cpc now

I got one while on for Stobarts - complete waste of time. Doesn’t even count towards dcpc :unamused: :unamused:

Before i knock it, what are you taught, whats it all about?

NVQ = Nothing, Very Quickly.

Nuff said.

It’s a gathering of information about you doing your job. Don’t know the actual time spent but it goes over several weeks. Dropping trailers, checking weather forecasts, traffic situations before setting off :unamused: :unamused: You know…just as we always do being professional drivers and that - should really count as part of dcpc though because it’s more involved!! Another pointless piece of paper but SOME (not heard of any) employers like it :open_mouth:

 or - No Valuable Qualification

We first (a few weeks before) had to do this intelligence insulting question paper asking stupid questions that I only remember them for having nowt to do with lorries. Then on the assessment day, I had to check my lorry over twice because the assessor arrived a bit late and my word wasn’t good enough. I had to ask a colleague to check my brakelights were working (even though it was dark and I could see their reflection on the ground).
I was expected to supervise the loading (even though we aren’t allowed out of cabs during loading) so I simply raised the tipper and switched the weigher on.
Usual crap during the day, silly questions, “please don’t go over 40mph” (I was cruising at 42 ffs).
All in all, a crap certificate and the same wage.

I got 2 last year, apparently they look good on my CV, I dont have a CV :unamused:

dri-diddly-iver:

Don’t know if it’s still the case but I done it a couple of years back and the firms got a grant to pay it.
Complete load of crap I’ve ever seen a job advert mention it or anyone asked for it and it doesn’t count to cpc.
Just a thing so they can put them investor in people and other crap on the lorry and stationary.
Had to complete a diary detailing doing checks what you did if you had a defect etc.
Had a bloke come out went down to the landfill went through the procedure of getting on and off tip how the trailer works etc.
Came to the scrapyard after saw the place and was convinced we wouldn’t get in and out and complimented me on me blindside reverse on to there bridge and that was it and he bought the tea and sandwiches too

I had a diary to fill in, it went in the tipper with 15t of muck yet I still got the same NVQ as those gulliable enough to fill it in during their lunchbreaks.
“Investors In People:” They only put that because it costs too much to signwrite “We put our underpaid employees through pointless courses because it’s a great tax avoidance”…

We got B/S’d to do ours, we were told “Do this and you get 21 hours towards your DCPC” when they actually meant “Do this and youll get funding for 21 hours DCPC”
All ■■■■■■■■ at the end of the day.

Just yet another example of the usual bullcrap… you know… no real substance, just appearing on the face of things to be seen to be doing something :unamused: to keep others on more money than us in non-jobs, preety much the same as DCPC, WTD etc etc, and all the other absolute ■■■■■■■■ that the powers that be in this industry seems to favour, and that’s it in a nutshell end of :smiling_imp: .

Think it’s most industurys now days. Be an nvq in going to the toilet soon.

It would be nice if you could get one for the industry you want to get into instead of the one your already in. I have one for Forklift truck driving. Complete waste I time as I wouldn’t care if I never set sat in one ever again. It pretty much got completed for me anyway.

There was talk of being able to do the next level which was supposed to be harder and more in depth, but I think once the instructors have met their quota for a site they lose interest in the people who actually require the their ‘knowledge and experience’ to take it further.

Just like most things nowadays, trying to reach targets with as little work as possible
