Driver killed...

HGV Driver killed in M40 Head on crash with car this morning. Not a good way to go - as a result of someone elses actions!

RIP Driver.

Lorry driver dies in wrong-way crash
A lorry driver was killed when his heavy goods vehicle was struck by a car travelling the wrong way down a motorway.
The crash, which happened on the south-bound M40 near Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, sparked a fire which forced police to close the motorway between Warwick and its intersection with the M42.
A Central Motorway Police Group spokesman said: "Initial inquiries indicate that the car was travelling in the wrong direction prior to the collision.
“The collision led to a large fire affecting both carriageways of the M40, necessitating the closure of the motorway between junction 15 at Warwick and the M42.”
Specialist collision investigators from Warwickshire Police have been called to the scene.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the Volvo lorry, which was carrying cans of hairspray, was gutted by the blaze, which showered hundreds of exploding aerosol cans on to the north-bound side of the motorway.
Station officer Simon Ellershaw said the car involved came to rest about 80 metres away from the lorry, which toppled on to its side after the collision.
The female car driver is understood to have been treated by paramedics for relatively minor injuries.
Mr Ellershaw added: "When crews arrived the heavy goods vehicle was on fire and on its side, filling all three lanes of the southbound carriageway and the hard shoulder.
“The aerosol cans, which are powered by butane gas, were exploding and were whizzing across the north-bound carriageway. It was a very severe fire. All the cargo was burnt and the roof of the lorry was destroyed.”

Terrible. I think motorway slip roads could/ should have a one entry system designed. Like a pressure pad that only works on one side of a gate to avoid this. Even though there are no entry signs that obviously idiotic people cannot comprehend.

West Midlands Ambulance Service, Warwickshire Fire And Rescue, Central Police Motorway Group and the BBC.

None mention this ‘fatal’ crash. But they do mention this one :-

Was it this from 2003!!!

The Daily Mail reporting ten year old news?
Whatever next.
Unless this is an amazing coincidence…

Link to this mornings crash. Went past it about 5.30 this morning.

We heard on our radio that West Mids region were asking for assistance with closures from East region, so we assumed it was a major incident :frowning: Thoughts to all involved.

Because of where it was and time of the day we needed one of your crews to assist with closures early on. Pleased to say only one person injured although he is reported to have serious internal injuries, hence the closure while AI do their stuff. As far as i know he is alive, he was in the van. The LGV driver was uninjured. Job started about 0445/0500, i reopened at 1115.

why were 3 junctions closed

why were 3 junctions closed

Restricted exit/access junctions or best diversion for for traffic flow depending on job or location.

That has restricted junctions in that area.

come again

very unusual truck driver being killed but car driver only has minor injuries !

Truck driver was unhurt, no car involved, it was a van. Are you still looking at the job from 2003■■

J13 is access onto the M40 south only, so that had to be shut as the RTC was south of it, J14 is only to get off the M40, that puts you onto an A road so no good to put a lot of traffic onto, J15 is the next logical place to close.
