Driver hours regulations

Seemingly there’s a temporary restricted relaxation to drivers hours In Scotland due to the Forth road bridge closure.
RHA annoncement. Don’t know anymore details.

Not in yet, been requested…

Ministers have asked the UK Government to take forward an HGV drivers hours relaxation related to the Forth Bridge closure, which could be introduced this week

Actually, according to this newspaper, they HAVE relaxed them…

D of T have granted.
But more hours driving. Such fun

It never ceases to amaze me when we have snow or storms or really bad weather how the goalposts move.
So at present it’s highly dangerous towards road safety to the public if we go over 4 and a half without a break, a crime against humanity if we do over 10 hours driving, and you are a killing machine if you take less than 9 hours rest. (Ok I’m exaggereating but you get my drift.) Then they chuck disproportinate fines at you…because they can.
But Mr and Mrs Middleclass can’t get their champers and Xmas puds in time so Hey ■■■■ Presto, tomorrow suddenly it’s safe and acceptable to do all of the above and more, fill yet boots (depending how desperate they are)

Well you know what, they can go and ■■■■ themselves, I aint playing.
When I’m up there (as I am today) it’s business as usual 13 on 11 off, anybody who isn’t an owner driver that plays along with this crap is a bloody fool…imo.

There you go lads, they have covered their arses (surprise surprise :smiling_imp: ) with the ‘driving tired/employer’s responsibility’ clause, so that’s them in the clear if things go ■■■■ up within your 11th hour of driving…everybody’s happy.
So Crack on and fill yer boots.

Very good point. God enough when it suits them all of a sudden.
I know my old company near Grangemouth will suffer due to the closure as kincardine bridge will be a nightmare. Maybe they should approach Wee Burney (super Nicola) for reimbursement due to Holyrood failings as this was highlighted some time ago. I some how doubt they will help the dirty lorries.

Agree 100%
Also, if it’s safe for drivers in scotland (or those caught in operation stack) to work extended hours, why is it unsafe for drivers in the midlands or north england?

That’s pretty much how I’d be playing it in that situation. 9 hours off is already a stretch if you’re going home. Any less is only going to lead to tired drivers. But this is OK because … someone might get a load a day late :unamused:

I was a bit surprised to see the Police only allowing trucks and buses on the main Rosyth to Kincardine bridge road today, that made things a bit easier.
I always thought that the powers that be thought car journeys were more important than ours :smiling_imp: , …with hgv lane bans at certain hours on some roads etc.
Kincardine bridge and the new one were running smooth earlier on but I would think peak time would be a different story.

A very good point.
Also, when driving in bad conditions like the winter of 2010/11 a fella gets much more fatigued than he would in good weather. It just shows the ludicrous way the laws are written. I never understood the logic then and I don`t now.

Well that’s a first on here, everybody so far agrees with me. :open_mouth:

There must be somebody thinks it’s reasonable, agrees with it and is going to do it.

Sticking to the rules me. anit no way I’m doing more than 15 hours at a push.
