I don’t think the driver will be hitting any more bridges, he apparently broke his shoulder in the incident so a painful way to learn a lesson. When you do see the picture, it was in the Metro newspaper, you will see the drivers door has been removed from the unit. This was to enable them to get him out of the cab as due to the busted shoulder it was very difficult.
Here’s another one !!!
Mentha & Halsall Shopfitter’s of Southport tried to take their 7.5 tonner under a 10’9 bridge !! This looks like the same one that that Kwik Save artic tried to go under !!
Rob,
That link you posted has got some good pics on it! crikey what a mess he made!
You just don’t miss a bridge that low… obviously one of those judgement lapse times! Not really sure that guy should be driving anything bigger than a car.

Despite the date at the top I’ve just noticed that it’s from June 1 2007
There is no problem discussing the Curries double decker that it was posted rammed a low bridge near Alperton,

why dont they put those warning chains like the ones either side of the bridge on the 619 from worksop to jct 30 of the m1 , to me its a simple cheap way of stopping aload of damage and injury , but its the only place ive seen them.

They’re on the 628 at that 13’9 bridge too.

Why when there is a sign telling the driver the height. thats if you can call them lorry drivers, muppets more like.

The problem with these chains, (although I agree with Dafman) is that they are sited after a suitable place to turn around. Which is why I think so many drivers go up to the bridge before reversing back. I realise that some if not most of these idiots go just in the hope the chains are to be proved wrong and they in fact can scrape under the bridge, but a sign warning them that no turning area ahead or similar would help.
However as I have said about the siting of them, why not put them before the signs for the overheight diversion route through Whitwell village?
A polish driver that ignored warning lights and alarms
in the Jack Lynch tunnel in Cork riped all the lights and vents off the roof causing €500,000
damage he carried on and never reported it he was caught later. he has just been in court and was fine €900
Problem with just having some chains before the bridge is it probably won’t do anything. The guy who hit that 10"9 was obviously going at a decent speed and hadn’t even registered the bridge was under his height, so hitting the chains he’d hear a little jingle half a second before the bridge rips the boxbody apart, only instance it might work in, is if the drive is moving very slowly towards the bridge in queueing traffic or something. In all other cases the drivers clearly just haven’t got their wits about them, so chains at the bridge wouldn’t help imo.
