driver hire

Hi folks, anyone had experience good or bad with this agency. Thanks in advance.

generally good. they sent me all over the place, but kept me busy every day. my local ones have a licence upgrade scheme.

I only left because of the petrol strikes in 2000, I couldn’t keep travelling 20 miles each way to work. I knocked on doors and got a job with a local firm. that was the only problem I had with the agency, because the place I got the job with used driver hire, the agency tried to charge them 2 grand to take me on. they dropped it in the end because they said that they would stop using the agency. it got pretty nasty for a while.

my recommendation is go for it, I drove school buses, library vans, bin lorries, flatness with hiabs, multi drop, trunking, and loads of other stuff! really good experience and a lot of fun

Thanks jbaz, im recently passed (no experience) so I will give it a go,thanks for comment.

They will more than likely give you 7.5t work to begin with .But give them a try you never know .

I passed my class 2 3 weeks ago, signed up to Driver Hire 2 weeks ago, I’ve had 2 training days with a local aggregates firm and now doing full time on 32 Tonners! Go for it, perfect way to get experience for us new folk!

Done ok there , must just be down to individual branches and its well known the Edinburgh west branch is crap .

I registered with the Leeds East branch and so far have found them to be pleasant and efficient, and have found me plenty of Class 2 work. Currently driving a 64 plate MAN 26t around. Only issue is the mandatory DH Umbrella Company which seems to take a big slice of the money. As I am doing this mostly for experience it is not that important to me but that depends on your situation.

Agencies are generally very flexible regards giving you what you require. However as a ‘newbie’ I recommend you research the good firms in your area and find out what agencies are ‘First tier’ in them and choose where you want to be rather than getting lumbered with any old tosh. Good luck!
