Someone, whom is well informed recently told me that if you haven’t driven for them in over 3 months then the contract between DH and the driver is void or to put it another way, automatically cancelled. Can someone in the know, confirm whether this is true or not?
as i well know D.H.l. seem to make rules up as they go along what this maybe is that you have to do another induction before you can work on their site again if you have a three month or more gap. also if you have changed agencies they may not want to know for up to 3 months
…all speculation im no expert…
I worked for Driver Hire (Bolton and Wigan). I left in May, two years ago. Had a telephone call from them last week, asking if I was working. I told them I was still in the job I left them for, but would go back to them if I needed to use agency. They said they would keep my details on file.
I worked PAYE, and never paid any fees to them.
I believe they are a franchise, so each branch works differently.
…And get lied to? How many different versions of “How long does it take to get parity pay @ Royal Mail” are there out there? (example I’m familiar with, not trying to make this about me)
Of course, I’m always told “I’m NOT very well informed”, considering I worked there for over 20 years.
OP’s question is sensible enough. It would take “no work for 8 weeks” before any contracts lapse where I’ve been. At other places, it would vary.
The person who’ll tell you the truth though - probably won’t be the person one is supposed to call.
I’d ask other long-standing driver hire staff, myself…

I know driver hire charge about £12.50 a week to process your wages even if your PAYE.
Done 1 day with them until I found that out.
Chances are, you’re NOT PAYE then. Just “Pseudo PAYE” which I’ve expanded upon at length in other posts…
“Cheaper than usual umbrella” is what I’d call a charge of £12.50 per week to process each wage slip. It also encourages agencies to dish out single shifts per week, rather than none or full weeks too, of course.

In other words, you didn’t read your contract before you signed it
Wasn’t in contract or if it was I didn’t see it. The driver hire I worked for outsourced all the payment parts to the accountancy firm after my first day they made contact with me via email.
This is quote from that email.
You will receive a registration pack in the post which it is advised that you read through and contact the office should you require further information or have any queries’.
Please also be aware that CWC charge an admin fee of £12.50 per week and have an optional personal accident insurance cover of £1.50 (95p insurance 55p admin) which if you wish to opt out of can you confirm by return and this will not be chargeable.
