Has any used driver hire and been put through there class 1?
My mate is thinking about it.
He reckons it’s free but I’m reckon there a catch someware.

Reading the title I thought you meant LGV C1 (7.5 tonner)

When I needed a job about 20 years ago I applied for a C1 position as I had that licence. I did not have C+E . I was with a job club at that time and had to keep applying it was all a bit silly but that’s the Government for you,

He will most likely have to work for the agency for a set period of time and if he leaves before then would have to repay some or all of the training costs.

Good news is they’ll want to recoup their costs so he won’t be short of work from them.

It will be free, conditional on him continuing to work for Driver Hire for a set period after taking his Class 1, typically two years. If he leaves before then, the cost will be deducted from his final pay cheque, pro rata (i.e. if he leaves after one year then half of the cost will be deducted).

So it all depends on whether he thinks he will be there for the next two years. If he does then it’s not a bad deal, especially as he should be earning £50 or so a week more on Class 1 work.

Found one advert for it but doesn’t give much detail as to the training, beyond you need 60 hours of class 2 and is very hard graft.

Plus presumably they dont automatically give you the job. Typical agency, missing all the real details.

£12 per hour as class One working some Sats doing heavy physical work in Milton Keynes area. What’s that like as a competitive rate against other jobs?
Assuming it’s one quid less than other work? Assuming you work 48 hrs for 52 weeks for two years that’s almost 5 grand to get your training.
Hhhmmmm…
