Driver gets a shock 11000volts

Doing a farm delivery today and I noticed a 8wheel grab wagon with the crane up in the air to it’s full extent and knowing there was a overhead main power line overhead I blew my horn and ran over to him to warn him of the danger, but I was too late, he had got into the cab to tip the body up and it tilted over a touch and the bucket went closer to the overhead lines and start arcing out.
He got out the cab and and his hand made contact with cab and he got a belt off it
When the power engineers came out to isolate it the couldn’t believe he had survived serious injury or death.
Why he put the crane so high I don’t know, he said he had seen the power lines but didn’t realise that it could arc out like it did, I contacted the ambulance service and he was taken to hospital, he rang me tonight to thank me and said he was fine.
The tyres on the wagon have been burned a little other than that it’s ok.

Jeez, thought that’d be goodnight Vienna. Surviving 11,000 volts is one to tell the grand kids. Buy a lottery ticket.

Makes you wonder if he had ever taken an ALLMI course or similar, one of the main things they highlight is the abilty of arcing when waving a crane about!

Run over to him… Not a good idea at all, your the one who should by a lottery ticket. If you do hit a high voltage cable stay in the cab until told you can come out by eletrical engineers.

Non of you heard the stories of fresh water fishermen touching overheads with carbon rods or poles ?
I have seen beach rods struck by lighting, they light up like neon tubes !
And glow in the dark for a fair while after .

Watch at the end when the tyre finally goes on this.

The danger for the driver is getting down from the cab in the rain…

The more current that flows, the more damage happens.

The volts are just what allows the electricity to jump any gaps. It’s the current that burns and kills you.

Video demonstrates why you shouldn’t stand under trees in a lightening storm as well… What the Bark!
