I do online shopping and not just through Covid. I have done it for 10 years or more. 2 homes I have lived have had stairs up to my apartment, no one has ever refused to bring my shopping up, in one flat I had a key on a string that I lowered down to them, they let themselves in and carried my shopping upstairs.
I still use online shopping and ask them to place my shopping on a garden bench if its not raining or on the kitchen worktop if it is.
I also have a weekly oxygen supply, the driver comes in the house, checks all the cylinders and equipment, and replaces what is necessary. I imagine he gets to see some sights as some of his customers are end of life and in a hospital bed. He cant refuse to replenish the cylinders.
Suggest you go and troll elsewhere if I was you, as you won’t get any sympathy here, also learn how to spell and put sentences together properly TOSCO plobber.

Not surprised to see Carryfast pipe up and use this thread as an excuse to start babbling on about having to do something other than sit behind a steering wheel within a job role.
I clearly said that the driver’s job stops after taking the trays to the customers doorstep.
I also said that if the customer is incapable and has no authorised help/carers from that point then it’s a matter for Social Services and/or Medics not a supermarket delivery driver.
Feel free to add Covid contagion restrictions to all that including social distancing at said doorstep.
If I can’t enter the homes of elderly friends and family to help them with DIY or putting away their shopping then I certainly ain’t going to enter the homes of strangers.
Shop workers’ unions were always a joke. You know like accepting Sunday working for standard rates.
Pair of single-use disposable gloves and a face mask, along with insisting the customer stays in a different room (with connecting doors closed) and the windows in the delivery location open and you are at no added risk of contracting Covid19, regardless of how dirty/unhygienic the flat etc is. The virus doesn’t jump up from surfaces the occupants have touched, sneezed or gobbed on, no matter how dirty/smelly they may be. Bin the gloves, mask etc straight away and you’re good to go.
I’m struggling with the concept that a lone driver is expected to enter the home of a vulnerable adult, unless Tesco are making DBS’s mandatory?
Yes some people do live in conditions a farm animal would object to, I’ve seen some horrendous sights when doing home deliveries, you just have to make sure to wipe your feet on the way out
If the customer is unable to, for example, put the cornflakes away in the cupboard, then how is he able to get them out when he needs them?
They’ll have a paid carer or relative to do it for them
Who can put the shopping away for them too, then!
Problem solved.
When my (late) mum was till living semi-independently, her shopping was delivered in bags, placed on a kitchen top, and left for the carer to put away. The delivery guy took no more than 2 steps into the house.

They do: “Please be aware that as part of our recruitment process, job offers are subject to a Criminal Record Check, which will be carried out by an external third party.”
And yes, households where you wipe your shoes on the way out are very common in my experience (both as a copper and a delivery driver).
When I did food service deliveries we had carry the stuff wherever the customer wanted. Up/Down stairs/Lifts etc. Put the dry in one room frozen in another etc. One customer took it to far, it was a garden centre restaurant and I was putting all the frozen in the big walk in freezer and stacking it in the middle of the room for them to put away. One of the workers told me “The bread goes on that shelf, just take the bread already there off first and put back after the new stuff so it stays in date order”. I think I gave the ‘the look’ and said “Im sure you can do that yourself” and kept stacking the product on the floor.
It’s a ■■■■■■■ joke , the old lady near us ( 90 + ) has hot meals delivered , the idle git apparently knocks on door and leaves the meal on the step outside , if she fell , freezing cold she’d stand no chance , so while I’m off I get her to ring me & I drop it in for her , he could just stick a mask on
It’s like when I did Tesco expresses, all those idle gitswould stand there on the end of the tail lift whilst some young lass struggled like hell to get a cage full of beer across yard into shop because it wasn’t there job , I just said put the kettle on and I’ll drag them in for you , it was only 3/4/5 at best
Bone ■■■■■■■ idle , I’d be ■■■■■■■ embarrassed , if your worried about covid ( I am ) , put a mask on , but to not help some old lady , disabled is ■■■■■■■ disgusting , countries gone to the ■■■■■■■ dogs , mind half the population can’t manage to say please or thankyou or hold a door for a young Lass with a baby or anyone come to that

Great so please advertise the job as home delivery van driver/customer home help operative as and when required.Involving all the usually accepted implications of that job description.
ETS:
If you wear disposable gloves and don’t have a habit of licking your shoe undersides you should be fine. At least until spring comes along and it gets a lil over 0 deg.
So why are we banned from entering the houses of friends and relatives so long as we wear ‘gloves’ and a mask.
The thing is obviously airborne and doesn’t need to be licked to be transmitted from one place to another or on clothes/shoes etc etc moving it from one surface to another. So by this bs rule entering one infected household could transfer it to the van on jacket or trousers or hair or shoes then to numerous other delivery addresses and to the driver’s own home and household.

"Hello grandma, we’ve come to visit. Now off you go and sit in another room, closing the doors behind you. We’ll stay here in the kitchen with the windows open. (These are the guidelines for people working in other people’s houses).

I know what the ( numerous ) ads say but that ain’t the same thing as customer delivery driver/home help care operative.
So high turn over of staff because of misrepresented job role and title. Then throw Covid infection risk and here we are ■■■■■■ of ‘delivery drivers’ moaning about a dodgy union swallowing it.

I once applied for a job as a driver:
Cheeky sods expected me to check the oil and water! I told them that I wasnt a mechanic. Another place said it was up to me to fill up with diesel! Soon told them. And as for doing office work by filling in time sheets etc, Im not a pen pusher. Union weren`t even interested.

I think we may be getting the beginnings of a peek at why CF never got into the European work that he claims to have wanted to do.

Yep pre trip and post trip vehicle checks, securing loads possibly checking manifests as to how many pallets and going where. As part of the job of a driver who’d have thought it.
Ironically even you don’t say anything about being a home help/carer ( or warehouse or building site labourer etc etc ) as part of the job title of ‘driver’.
