Driver Facing Cameras in Cabs

I have been told that due to the amount of recordings taken that they are only reviewed if the driver reports an issue anyway

Guessing the person you should be wary off watching footage told you that

It was. However the company I work for has a lot of trucks so wouldn’t surprise me. Nothing was said regards the speed bumps so probably right

Most likely watching every movement at their leisure, they’ll tell drivers what they want to hear…

Maybe, I don’t know. They will have to be careful if they are to ensure compliance with the data protection act, and its upcoming replacement (can’t remember the name).

What I do know is they were happy to take me as a new pass with no questions asked. They say this keeps their insurance costs down so not for me to argue.

Prior to this I spent nearly 20 years in retail so am well used to being on camera. I wouldn’t say I like it but as a new pass I wasn’t in the position to be picky

Freight Dog.My camera, like most others, records automatically an event involving sudden shock such as being rammed while parked or a collision while driving which requires no action from the driver. The sensitivity can be adjusted.

That’s sounds pretty cool. What would concern me is someone breaking the window to pinch it (the irony  ). Apparantly that happens quite a lot ha? Also where to put it in the window as not mad on sticky things showing through the glass. I did briefly look on google, saw one called a blackvue. Price is pretty mental though, 350 bar :astonished: .

Google rear view dash cam built in just clips over internal mirror

If you drive 10 hours per day, you need somebody to watch your footage for 10 hours. If you have a hundred drivers, you need to watch 1000 hours of boring video.

Every day.

This is just silly. Have you not heard of telematics yet?

How about if a telematics system system were somehow to alert your TM to a heavy braking incident or perhaps a speed 10% over your locations limit? How about if the cams were a part of that telematics system, recorded & stored on the cam itself, the telematics box, the servers of the telematics provider, a cloud server god knows where, on your company’s server & everyone’s desktop, laptop, tablet & smartphone in your transport office?

microlise.com/solution/transport-logistics/

kcrussell25:
All they can request is footage related to the accident.

Also “all that is stored” is very little. I have been driving about 4 months and only set them off about 4 times. A harsh braking and hitting speed bumps a couple times when first started and once I hit the manual record when someone clipped my trailer. So their isn’t much to see anyway.

Do you know why the driver often gets arrested at the scene?

Do you know how they find out if you were using your phone? Whether it was used hands free?

Do you know how they find out if you had adequate rest or you were up all night posting on TNUK, browsing XNXX or scanning Grindr?

They get EVERYTHING.

Would love to see that one stand up in court
As long as the tacho was on break for the required time its totally up to you what you do with your time…

Wrong. If you finished a 15 shift then went partying until half hour before your next shift you would be negligent.

I’m inclined to agree with you here, professional driver, responsibilities to your profession, duty of care, you name it, it will all be put before a court, mind you as a driver you wouldn’t be on your own cos the company chiefs would be there beside you…except for those using agency drivers who will have signed the standard declaration before starting work, but the agency boss will be there with you :bulb:

However it only goes to highlight the pay that some are on does not reflect the seriousness of the job, when you are only deemed a professional after the crap has hit the fan.

On my Cpc course (a thrilling 5 days) we were shown a video about a lorry crash caused by the driver falling asleep. The Police researched what he did in his time off and lifestyle. They had evidence he’d been out the night before for a late night meal and some booze (5 pints he said) And not only that, but it was a regular thing. It was this that was used in court to build a case.

People drop themselves in it with social media all the time. I have a relative who works in the fraud department of a company. They quash most of the claims with the use of social media.

Ja, we will not only control your working life, we will also control your private life. A camera in your bedroom, to check that you have 8 hours sleep before you come to work. A tacho/blackbox in your car, to make sure you do not drive to Cornwall for the weekend when you should be resting. Any parties you intend to attend, must be authorised 2 weeks in advance.

Cameras are wrong and a joke but if you are a “professional” driver you should ensure you rest. The hours are too long in a lot of these jobs. It should be better paid to stop people having to work stupid amounts of hours just to live. I prefer three or four long days then three or four days off.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing, just “wot we woz shown” .

Think it was this video. Ironically, I nearly fell asleep during the cpc. Think it was covering the same tacho reg 5 times on different days did it. Sandwiches were nice though.

Some posters on here seem to think tacho regs rule their life…WRONG…once my tachos on break i do as i wish and always have done. Even with a 9hr ill still either have a workout with the dumbells/ do a couple or three laps or so around a truck park, shower/eat, watch tv and have my usual 6hrs sleep (its all i need) getting up an hour before im due to leave. Ill be ZB ed if ill be told what to do with time off, same as i dont give a ■■■■ what anyones been shown on a CPC course. Ive done things my own way for the past 25 years ill not be told what to do by any inspectorate ‘authority’!

Why do people insist on this superhero no one tells me what to do bull$hit. It’s not about someone telling you it’s about professional attitude. It stands to reason if you work a long day and then don’t rest and start early next day you are a danger to society. You should not need telling it’s part of your professional duty. Maybe for 25 years you’ve been lucky. Maybe not. I hope your luck holds out
