As Rikki seems to imply in his sticky, Is it possible to take a week of work to make up your 35 hrs of driver training in one go? This would suit me better as I am an owner driver and live in the north of scotland. Don’t know if there will be a place to take the training in Aberdeen or Inverness as these are my closest cities. More info would be greatly appreciated.

YES - just make sure you don’t leave it too late though as you may find it difficult in early 2014 if many do that.
you can take the same 7 hour course 5 times in one week if you want to
- seriously

Click the above link and then the link to the courses where you can select an area of the UK
Cheers ROG, all the info I needed there to get sorted. Bloody expensive though for a simple owner driver like me!!!

After you have found the cheapest way of getting those 35 hours, you will have to let us know what it cost you in TOTAL - the course, lost earnings etc…
Ring round for fees. You will find a vast difference. There are those trainers out there treating this as a cash cow. Others, ourselves included, have simply added it to their portfolio and offer it as a service. Yes, for a profit, but not a rip off.
Also be aware that there is NO quality check to speak of in place at the moment. So make sure you book with an established trainer; it’s the only hope you’ve got of receiving quality.
Don’t even think about leaving it into the 5 year period. The maths are simple. There just isn’t sufficient training provision for the number of drivers involved. So it wil be difficult - and expensive - to get training at the last minute.
Good luck
I’ve got my first 7hrs booked for September- 65quid. I think thats pretty reasonable. If you’re an o/d I would definatly ring round for rates sooner rather than later as training companies are more likely to do you a good deal IMO. Thats what we’ve done. The longer you leave it, the higher the cost. If you do it now you will be more likely to negotiate a deal that will carry the same price every year, instead of being held to ransom in 2014.

Your’e spot on with that hammer- not all training companies are trying to rip people off- we guarantee the price for the 5 years if booked(even 1 day) somewhere in the first 12 months.
If you wait there will be 1 almighty mad dash and some people will either be left out or pay more than they needed to
right then, a simple question for the CPC guru’s…
the ones that have the licence already have grandfather rights up to september 2014, if we do 35 hours in the next year or so does that reset the clock until september 2019 (we get the full cpc until then and affectively have 10 years worth of it), or does it just mean we get ripped off for 5 years worth?

Not a “guru” but hope this helps.
The run out date on your card will be 2019 so you must do another 35 hours before that run out date- so yes i guess you get up to 10 years

Sometimes easier and quicker just to ask the question ROG

They seem very steep but perhaps that might be due to lack of competition in your area.
I looked on the JAUPT site under training providers and found very few in your area.
Option-
Look at a weeks B&B elsewhere in the UK to do a one week course (or courses) as you may find it cheaper overall and get a P/T break out of it as well.
