DRIVER CPC QUESTION

My next door neighbour has just come home from doing the 3rd of his CPC modules. His instructor has told the class they must legaly do a printout at the end of every shift where they have used a digicard so that if they are later stopped by VOSA whilst driving an analogue equipped vehicle, they can produce printouts for inspection. otherwise VOSA can give them a fixed penalty. So where do we all stand on this one ?. We know that we must have enough tacho roll to print out any records that VOSA wish to see and suffer a fixed penalty if we can’t, and that it is not a legal requirement to do a printout every day, but what if we are driving an analogue vehicle when stopped. How the heck can we be expected to comply ■■.. his instructor was adamant about MUST do a printout…

Adamant is a failed rock star and a manufacturer of toilets and urinals :stuck_out_tongue:

The only thing you must legally carry is the digital card and the current day and cards for the previous 28 days, not necessarily 28 cards (if you drove an analogue equipped vehicle for the whole time)

My cpc instructor feeds me crap to. Suppose it justifys the 7 hours and you can walk away saying well i learnt something today.

It is advised if you have infringments to do a printout explain etc cover your own back. Just keep your card on you.

Im no expert and far from it but that was what i was told by Birmingham motorway police, that was at NEC show in april and to be fair i have been stopped allot in london well about once every 2 weeks and never have i been asked to show print outs only have you driven a analogue.

you are legally required to carry your digi card if you have one, even if it has never been used

you are not required to do a print out after each shift

you are not required to carry a certain number of spare rolls (3 is the usual number that is mentioned)

it makes me consider getting a Dictaphone to record the sessions when i do my DCPC, so that i can accurately report on all of the total ■■■■■■■■ spouted by these ‘so-called’ trainers :unamused:

Just accept things as they are, some of the trainers know less about driving than your average T.M.

But it does pose one question,
suppose i am stopped whilst driving an analogue vehicle, I can produce my analogue record and my digi card.
Could VOSA reasonably ask me to produce a printout of my digicard activities… ■■? that is what my neighbour’s instructor was trying to say was the case, therefore you MUST do a printout of every days digi activities…
I think if VOSA tried to do that to me I would be saying “see you in court”

most (not all) VOSA vehicles have the ability to download both the digi card and the head unit

if you are driving an analogue equipped vehicle and they ask for the digi info, it is down to them to download it, if they do not have the means to do this, that is their problem, not yours

your only legal requirement is to carry your digicard (if you have one)

It isn’t your problem if VOSA or the police cannot read your card. You have done everything asked of you in law.

In that scenario they must accept what you are telling them.

I suppose in the unlikely chance there was another lorry driver with a digital tacho, he could let you do a print out. But I certainly wouldn’t let you or anyone else, you may use up my last metre of paper roll. :grimacing:

I am now going to carry a couple of rolls of another kind of paper in future, I would love to see their faces when they ask if i have enough to do a printout…

i have already got them stored in the top locker

In all fairness you must have the ability to print out any requsted info from the authorities, so a spare roll or 2 are a must for me.

But can you honestly imagine the face on my old man if 40 odd drivers printed off every days activities… we would be bump by the end of the month - there aint that much profit in the bloody job.

And I was put off going to try and do our own DCPC training… but the more I read the more i think why on earth not.

■■■■■■■■ if they want me to print off 28 days data, they can get me a new roll of paper. There is absolutely no need, the vehicle data is held in the head, they can download it to a PC exactly the same way we have to.

I have had a digi since 2006 and never been asked for a printout, even in France
