I have this test in a week and don’t have a clue on some questions.
I would appreciatte your help.
Starting with question 1a how can I see the vehicle is improperly loaded?
Here is the test detailed…
1 Demonstrate how to load a vehicle with due regard for safety rules and proper vehicle use you need to demonstrate 1a that you can calculate the weights that contribute to the total weight of a vehicle and explain what indications you can see that the vehicle may be improperly loaded. 1b the correct use of all equipment provided to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act including ramps and lifts 2 Show that you know how to secure the vehicle and its contents You need to demonstrate 2a that you understand the components of the vehicle that pose a safety risk and how you would check for their safety 2b how to check the equipment that ensures passenger comfort and safety including seats and safety belts 2c how to check that the equipment provided for a safe and comfortable journey is in good working order 2d that you know what checks to make before you start your journey 3 Demonstrate an ability to prevent criminality and trafficking of illegal immigrants you should be able to 3a demonstrate where illegal immigrants may hide themselves and what checks you would make 3b explain the procedures for ensuring that all passengers are accounted for when crossing borders and in particular when leaving and returning to Great Britain. 4 Demonstrate an ability to assess emergency situations You should be able to demonstrate and explain 4a the actions you would take in case of a fire, including actions to ensure the safety of passengers and the use of fire extinguishers 4b the inherent dangers that a vehicle presents to other road users and pedestrians 4c the procedures for checking the safety of vulnerable passengers 5 Demonstrate an ability to prevent physical risk You should be able to demonstrate and explain 5a the checks that you would make before taking the vehicle out on each and every journey.
I don’t do PCV but I am surprised that these issues have not been dealt with either by your instructor or from the theory reading material that you should have been told to get
A lot of this looks like it could be done with a bit of common sense, then again thats easy for someone to say who has been in the industry for a while.
What sort of bus/coach do you have to demonstrate on? A bus will be easier with the immigrant thing as there are no boots and often these days being low floor etc etc dont have much space underneath for immigrants ro hang off… However if it was a coach then its a different ball game and you would need instructing about all the possible areas ie in the boots (when to lock them and check them en-route etc), on top of fuel tanks, axels etc etc. As rog said you really should have been instructed.
With loadings, I was always taught that 15 passengers is roughly equal to a ton, not sure what you do to calculate luggage weights though.
Well… here is a good excuse…I am going for the module 4 before doing the 3.
doing module 4 before 3 is ok - will be same for LGV next year
I have tried every site I know of on the internet in search of the questions & answers for modules 2 & 4 of the PCV driver cpc and came up with NOWT
The book ISBN 9780115529405 comes with a case study sample…I will type it here when I have the time…
Thanks but there ought to be a downloadable bank of the Q&As for PCV & LGV modules 2 & 4 - I have e-mailed the DSA to ask them where they are… should be an interesting reply
I read something about luggage is 1/3 of the weight of the passengers so that 45 pax + luggage would make 4 ton.
Yeah that sounds about right then. If I can help in any other way give me a shout and I will do my best.
Best of luck, keep us posted with how it goes as its something we are all going to have to do in the near future. I will probably have to do one for each (psv/lgv) too, but will deal with that as I require!
I had to go to our local HQ on Friday for the day to do the first part of my PCV CPC.The instructor had only had the details of the course for just over a week and had no idea about the content of the other elements of the other parts of the modules. The part I had to do was basically telling us to present a pleasant image to the customers and that “we are the difference”, followed in the afternoon by on-bus checking on a training bus that we were doing what we had been taught on a 1 day course on the “Smiths System” of drivingand role play on how we would deal with different types of customers - blind, deaf, young mothers etc. What relevance that had to any type of CPC qualification is beyond me.
When I asked when I could expect to finish doing the other modules of the CPC he said that it was programmed to be completed within the next 5 years. I said that that would be really valuable to me as I retire in 2yrs 11 mths time! Rumour has it that any modules I do get will also be transferable to the LGV CPC which I will need also, but I don’t believe that for one minute.
My impression of the whole debacle was that although it is a legal requirement for the company to start doing CPC training no one seems to have any idea about what is happening - no change there then
I am amazed that any of this legislation ever got passed by the EU, surely this type of thing is covered by the NVQ system (and I think that that is a waste of time for drivers too from what I have seen of that. At our place we are told that you can’t fail the NVQ course and having seen some of the numpties who have passed it I can well believe that!)

Not this time Rog, but I’ve no doubt they will become available by other sources…
Also the marking will be different, the examiner will mark positives and not negatives as per other tests.
