Driver cpc and hours

I’ve not really touched on driver cpc yet as I’m revising just for theory and hpt tests in February.
I understand that the driver cpc and max daily driver hours was introduced to improve driver standards and road safety. What I can’t get my head around is the fact that if I was to hold a cpc and drove professionaly for nine hours with rests I could in theory then get in and drive my own cat c vehicle as long as it was for non commercial use?

With regards to gaining the cpc, I passed my car test in 1988 so I have c1, c1e entitlement on my licence. Even though I’ve never driven a vehicle that comes under these catagories do I still have acquired rights?

All the the best for 2015

After passing the test you could use a cat C vehicle for private use but couldn’t use it to carry goods regardless of whether or not it was for commercial purposes.

Acquired rights for goods vehicle drivers finished in September so you will need to do 35 hours periodic training before you can drive HGVs commercially.

I see, so I woudnt have to do the initial driver cpc course just the 35 hour periodic then I would receive my cpc drivers card?

Thanks

That’s right, the acquired rights lasted for five years after the DCPC came into operation, for drivers of goods vehicles the five years acquired rights ended September 9th so you now have to do the 35 hours periodic training to get your DQC.

You can carry ‘goods’ in a private LGV C vehicle without dcpc - horse owners do that all the time BUT as the vehicle is over 7.5 tonnes GVW it will come under full EU tacho regs
