hitch:
below is why we need it
3 drivers on a night part taking of a few
there all different ages
a newbie an experienced driver and an old boyand as happens in these situations
eventually
the old boy says to the newbie
I was in Baghdad etc
and I’ve “forgotten” more than you have learned.and thats the point to remind us what we have forgotten
Nobody is denying some people need to be refreshed - you only have to see some of the Q+A’s on here or listen to drivers in RDC’s to know that.
BUT, most drivers don’t need it. I know all the rules that affect my work and stay legal and infringement free (mostly).
I did the dCPC, and was given incorrect information which I challenged, there was also lots of other info which may have been correct or incorrect but didn’t matter, I don’t remember any of it as it was completely irrelevant to me.
If my circumstances changed, where I’d need to know these other rules, I’d learn them - I learnt to read at primary school.
What they should have done, if you have so many recorded infringements or get pulled doing something wrong and show a lack of knowledge, then you should have to sit a refresher course, but not this 1 size fits all sledge hammer to crack a nut method.
Also, I learnt nothing on my dCPC course, which was taken 13yrs after I learnt the basics, and 6yrs after I learnt the changes. So, even though the rules had changed between me 1st learning the rules and my sitting a dCPC course, I was upto date, what am I going to learn during the next 5yrs?? NOTHING is the answer. But I’ll still have to pay for the crap
